Why you and I must vote against William S. Ruto and anything he stands for in 2027:
I have watched something break in this country, and I don't think we've properly reckoned with what it means.
Since 2024, more than 100 Kenyans have been killed in connection with political protests and police action: shot at rallies, killed in custody, disappeared and later found dead or never found at all. These aren't disputed abstractions. They are documented by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, reported by international media, and mourned by families who buried children, students, vendors, breadwinners. A 12-year-old girl killed by a stray bullet in her own home. A mask vendor shot at point-blank range while selling masks at a rally. A student shot in the neck. These are not casualties of war. They are citizens of a republic that claims to derive its authority from them.
Here is the philosophical core of it: a government's legitimacy is not self-granted. It is not conferred by winning an election, by delivering infrastructure, by economic policy, or by political alliances forged after the fact. Legitimacy is a standing condition, continuously earned, and it rests on one non-negotiable foundation, that the state does not turn its violence against the very people it claims to represent. This is the oldest idea in the social contract tradition: citizens surrender certain freedoms to the state in exchange for protection, not predation. When a government kills, tortures, or disappears its own citizens for dissenting, it has not "gone too far" within its legitimate authority, it has stepped outside the boundary of what makes it a legitimate government at all.
Kenya's own constitution says this explicitly. Article 26 guarantees the right to life. Article 27 guarantees equality and freedom from state discrimination. Article 29 guarantees freedom from torture and cruel treatment, and the right not to be detained without trial. Article 37 guarantees the right to assemble, demonstrate, and picket. These aren't abstract ideals, they are the actual, binding text of the document every officer, minister, and president swears to uphold. A regime that violates them isn't making a difficult tradeoff. It is breaking the single agreement that justifies its power over us in the first place.
I understand the arguments people will make in 2027: about development, about infrastructure, about the economy, about political calculation, about "who else is there." I want to be honest that those conversations matter and deserve real scrutiny, I'm not pretending governance is simple. But I have come to believe there is a threshold beneath which no other argument is admissible. If a government has shown, repeatedly and without accountability, that it is willing to let its people be shot at rallies, tortured in custody, or vanished for speaking, then no policy achievement can be weighed against that on the same scale. You do not balance a life against a budget line. You do not trade accountability for a road.
This is not about tribe, party, or personality. It's about a line that either holds or it doesn't. If you watched what happened in 2024 and 2025, if you saw the funerals, the KNCHR reports, the mothers speaking to journalists about children who went out to march and never came home, then 2027 is not a normal election to you anymore. It's a referendum on whether that line still means anything in this country.
No one has the right to take a citizen's life for dissenting. No one has the right to torture, maim, or disappear a person for disagreeing with power. Not the constitution, not economic necessity, not political convenience. Anyone who has witnessed this and still finds a way to justify it has, I think, made peace with something I cannot make peace with.
May God Almighty have mercy on this Republic of Kenya in 2027.

ODM will discover what Jubilee discovered in 2022. Shoka inakuja huko nyanza ODM stronghold they won’t believe what UDA will do to them. When you let a snake into your tent, you shouldn’t cry when it bites your heel. Sifuna is the only thing Ruto never prepared for

One of the reasons criminals use women to bait or lure their victims is the largely false notion women are not as inherently evil as men. Even after being exposed, there is going to be a justification for why she did it but none for why her male counterparts did it.

Dear civic institutions (including religious institutions, chamas, sports clubs, running clubs, clubs 😅), you don’t need some big donor funding programme to raise awareness on ongoing continuous voter registration.
Why is this work being left to politicos?
Bwana Rigathi Gachagua, ongea mapema Mzee. What is this so major that this fella needs to say at 6pm? Will he declare a state of emergency or restricted movements to combat ebola?

Lakini in all honesty, a lady with the name Hannah will always speak sense, mzazi alikaa hivi akampatia jina Hannah, a very biblical and special name, and she knew what it means to sustain hope and prayer in a childless marriage until she was blessed with Samuel.
Mnaexpect msichana kama huyu abishane na nyinyi kivipi yet her history is very biblical?

I've noticed that if you're married you can make some bold career decisions that you can't afford to when you're not because someone else can shoulder that burden 4 a while if things don't work out.
