"there's 2 reasons why people go into science:
1. love uncovering new knowledge
2. want to impact the future state of the world
the first group just shouldn't start startups (truthnuke), because startups are not a great place to uncover new knowledge, science is actually better for that.
the latter group, the ones that want to change the future state of the world, a lot of them should become founders because someone's got to scale the science done in academia"
couldn't have said it better
building companies led by scientist-founders is @sethbannon's bread & butter. at @fiftyyears, he has backed 130+ companies, including 8 unicorns and 3 IPOs to date.
so what mistakes DO scientists-turned-founders repeat consistently? this, and many other questions, are answered in our latest episode of Under Pressure.

But what does this mean for a climate tech venture studio? Different firms can have different scopes for similar titles.

The latest emission gap report just came out. Bottom line: we’re not on track, greenhouse gas emissions still haven’t started to decrease.
The cover is absolutely brilliant !

Neat overview indeed.
Curious how they assess "scaleability" though as some factors may be fixed (e.g. land use) while others may evolve over time (e.g. energy efficiency)
Costs should probably be a bracket between current and future estimated costs
Thx for sharing @hausfath !
The new UNEP emissions gap report includes a chapter focusing on carbon dioxide removal.
It has a neat figure highlighting the feasibility, scalability, ease of MRV, environmental consequences, public perception, cost, and permanence of CDR pathways: unep.org/resources/emissions…
