Sharing my new article exploring how we can revitalize democracy and democratize policing. Adopting policies and taking actions that I describe can help law enforcement agencies and our democracy itself earn greater legitimacy, which is urgently needed.

For those who doubt official police records, this report finding a 25% drop in violent crime uses survey data from 240,000 people across the US. This is an unprecedented crime decline.
According to preliminary estimates from @BJSgov's NCVS, violent crime declined by 25% in 2025. It's another data point joining many others indicating a massive crime drop over the past few years. bjs.ojp.gov/library/publicat…

What does Silicon Valley’s “move fast and break things” motto mean for AI in criminal justice?
At a U.S. Commission on Civil Rights meeting, CCJ Senior Fellow Jonathan Wroblewski explained why AI products need rigorous evaluation before they’re implemented in the justice system.
In today's @Tennessean, my @CouncilonCJ colleague @KhaCumberbatch and I argue that the ballot amendment on bail should be the first step towards moving to a system based on risk, not riches, with due process for all.

Changing the standard for judging police deadly force (🇺🇸) from “reasonable” to “necessary in defense of human life” had no effect on how many people were killed by police (as proponents claimed) or on how many officers were injured (as opponents claimed)

The College-in-3 trend is accelerating. Early movers experimenting with a 3 year bachelor’s degree were less selective schools like Merrimack or Weber State. Then states like OH, OK, and KS told their flagship universities to pilot the 90 credit degree. Now even NYU is doing it.

French protestors want higher public spending, wages, subsidies and pensions. Meanwhile France has gov’t spending of 57% of GDP (among highest of Western countries), deficits of 5% of GDP, 10 year bond rate >5%, and a currency they don’t control. I don’t understand how this ends.
