Soybeans to six gigawatts is the right ratio. The 1970s US buildout ran at several GW of orders per year at peak. My question is whether Kentucky delivers at LaSalle timelines or Flamanville timelines. Would love to know what first concrete schedule they assume.
One of my nuclear mentors recounts how he arrived at a cornfield in LaSalle County, Illinois and left it with a couple of gigawatts. That was the 1970s. I wondered if I'd ever get to actually do something like that. In Lewis County, Kentucky it'll be soybeans to six gigawatts.

The headroom assumption is the weak point. France saw negative prices in spring 2026 while RTE kept reactors coupled for voltage regulation. Flexible data center load absorbs that surplus. Would love to see this modeled under post-ARENH.
Data centers raise your electric rates. Or cut them. Let's do the latter, y'all. With flexible operation and upgrades paid by new large loads, we will all benefit.

$97 long-term U3O8. Fuel costs remain a small fraction of nuclear LCOE even at these levels, which is precisely why the baseload case survives. The constraint is conversion and enrichment capacity, not yellowcake in the ground.

The oil market's last cushion is gone - just as demand is aggressively ramping up. According to Barclay's latest research: - China crude imports back near pre-war at 10.5mb/d - India running +600kb/d y/y - US demand recovering Supply stuck at 84% of pre-war with demand back at 100% - that's the squeeze. And prices are adjusting quickly. Buyers are paying a $13/bbl premium for cargoes loading next week over the front-month contract. A week into the war, that premium was under $4. 500m barrels of inventory have been burned through. Paper can be jawboned. Physical can't.

Non.

Belgium restored nuclear power output Belgium’s two remaining nuclear reactors are back online, restoring 2GW of reliable power after months shut down. Under Bart De Wever, the government has also scrapped the nuclear phase-out law and lifted the ban on new reactors. Concrete action to reverse the damage inflicted by energy-illiterate fools. Germany threw away more than 20GW of nuclear capacity under Merkel, enough to supply roughly 30% of its electricity. Not just IMHO, 8GW can still be recovered at minimum cost and in short order. Merz must halt dismantling and launch a serious programme to restore capacity - asap. Removed equipment can be replaced. Political paralysis is a choice. That’s the difference between De Wever’s pragmatism and Merz’s catastrophic inability to correct past energy mistakes quickly and decisively, even with a highly capable Katherina Reiche as energy minister. Well done, @Bart_DeWever and team. @_FriedrichMerz @BMWE_
Terwijl sluiting gepland was.

Lithium demand is forecast to more than triple by 2050, which would require the equivalent of 134 new mines and more than $100 billion in investment, according to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. That is one new mine every two months for the next 24 years. Demand would climb to nearly 7 million metric tons of lithium carbonate equivalent from 2.11 million this year, with each new mine averaging 36,000 metric tons of annual capacity. Benchmark says the biggest challenge is sustaining that investment through price cycles, while competing for capital with AI, defense and the wider energy transition. Curious what the equilibrium is here. If BEVs are 31% of exports and rising while total production stays depressed, ICE prolongation defends a shrinking segment with capital that could fund the powertrain transition.
Replying to @electricfelix
“You can recognise that the world has changed and plan for it, or you can encourage thousands of people to commit their lives to a false promise of the future. The continual obsession of German officialdom with prolonging ICE manufacturing very much suggests the latter” 👌
