A common minimizer statement is that COVID isn't a big deal anymore because "we have the tools." I'm sorry but we DON'T "have the tools" unless critical public health resources like vaccines, masks, tests, and healthcare are free and accessible to EVERYONE.

Some COVID minimizers keep saying we can ignore COVID because we have vaccines. Not only is that untrue because layers of protections are most effective, but due to the end of the public health emergency, and greed of pharma companies, many people can't even afford the vaccines.
After all the public investment in the research and production of vaccines, I just had to leave the pharmacy without my daughter's shots because the flu is $68 and COVID is $110. Who can afford $178 PER KID for shots before the school year starts??

People who minimize COVID love saying "it's endemic" to excuse their complicity. But while we are in a different phase of the pandemic than 2020, the truth is that COVID is still causing a high baseline of deaths, disability, & chronic illness that we should all refuse to ignore.

Yes. But COVID is still harming many. We need better vaccines, free N95s, clean air infrastructure, Long Covid treatments & more. Without these, we won’t be effective at mitigating future outbreaks. The best way to prevent the next pandemic is to deal with the current one.
COVID took over one million lives and climate change will be catastrophic. Real national security is not the bloated $900 billion Pentagon budget passed by the Senate. It is investing in preventing the next pandemic, guaranteeing health care for all and combatting climate change.

“Ignoring COVID” means ignoring equity. Unless governments actually acknowledge that they still need to do much more to mitigate the harms of COVID, millions of people who are higher risk or have Long COVID will never be able to “ignore COVID.” That’s a travesty.

They are intentionally framing climate and COVID as problems for individuals to deal with to distract us from holding the powerful accountable.

One of the most harmful pieces of disinformation that the far right tricked liberals into believing is that you can't have fun or live a fulfilling life while also taking COVID precautions to protect yourself and others.

The headlines are 11 days apart. Every time they try to lie and declare COVID is over, this happens:

This isn't a climate solution. We can't "you do you" ourselves out of the climate crisis. We need federal standards that protect workers from the heat, and to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

This is big. Our sister-in-struggle Elise Joshi just confronted the White House Press Secretary about the Willow Project. Elise’s words are so powerful, her courage so extraordinary. She is an inspiration to us all.

July has already seen: The hottest three-week period ever recorded. The three hottest days on record. The highest-ever ocean temperatures for this time of year. It is still possible to avoid the very worst of climate change, but only with dramatic, immediate #ClimateAction.

No matter how much we’ve lost, it will never be too late to fight. We must set aside differences and fight together. Soon, all but the greatest fools among us will realize that nothing was more important. #GlobalBoiling theguardian.com/commentisfre…

"The era of global warming has ended. The era of global boiling has arrived. The heat is unbearable, and the level of fossil fuel profits & climate inaction is unacceptable. Humanity has unleashed destruction. This must not inspire despair, but action." — UNSG @AntonioGuterres

This is why many places are against requiring or even recommending masks. The rich don’t want any visible signs that the pandemic is ongoing because it could cut into their profits. Unsurprising that elites have the same out of sight, out of mind attitude towards clean air tools.
I was told I could not put HEPAs around the office because it ‘created a heightened sense of risk’. I said that’s because there is a risk. I have them in my own office and they will continue to be there, but apparently am not allowed to make things safer for other people.

This is a huge victory not only for workers' rights, but for climate justice. One of the main reasons for the strike, which would have been the largest single-employer strike in history, was the lack of protections from heat-related injuries.
INBOX: @Teamsters win "historic" UPS contract, with wage increases for full time workers, in addition to a doubling wages for part-timers, end to the controversial two-tier contract known as 22.4, and the company agreed to install A/C's in all trucks after Jan. 2024, and more.
