Pleased to have co-authored A Blue Hope for @CPSThinkTank.
The paper is intended as a contribution to the Conservative renewal already underway: returning to first principles, rebuilding trust, and speaking again for people who want to get on.
Do have a read.
With a new Prime Minister on the way, what should the Conservative Party actually stand for?
A Labour government that racked up 24 U-turns in its first parliamentary session and lost its own Prime Minister to a backbench revolt has handed the Conservatives an opening.
The question is whether they are ready to take it. We've published a report today by two Conservative activists making the case for what comes next ⬇️
Everyone wants people to earn more. But businesses don’t have bottomless pockets.
After higher employer NI and rising bills, another increase in wage costs will mean fewer vacancies, reduced hours or higher prices.
Labour can’t keep making jobs more expensive and expect more of them to magically appear.
He’s right - let’s unshackle the City!

Look at all those activists dressed as placards...
It seems to have been a struggle to find volunteers to fill the room for Reform UK’s pre-Budget announcement today. Watch now on @GBNEWS.

This is yet another example of Burnham’s foot in mouth syndrome. He hasn’t thought this through or the implications.
Most people who voted for Brexit did so because they didn’t want free movement. Too many politicians have failed to understand the significance and impact of immigration on communities.
We have had more than enough experience of what happens when politicians (including previous Conservative governments) promise control but fail to deliver it. The answer is to learn from those mistakes, not reopen free movement.

BREAKING
The Treasury’s entrepreneurship adviser has announced she is quitting.
Alex Depledge tells my colleague @hannahprevett start-ups are treated as a “sideshow” and a “nice to have”.
“Entrepreneurship can’t be seen as a good news bonus on the margins of economic policy. That mentality is really dangerous for British business as a whole…”
Depledge due to leave her role on Thursday, the day after the Budget.

Bus fares.
Car park charges.
Noise on trains.
All irritating. But is this really what the Prime Minister should be spending his time on?
How about sorting out our national defence? Stimulating the economy? Bearing down on the extortionate welfare bill?
Burnham is stuck on Mayor-mode.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines
- Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends
- A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate or not displaying a permit
- Charges will also be cancelled on appeal for breakdowns, medical emergencies or broken ticket machines
- The £100 cap on charges will remain
- The rules will come into force as soon as possible and operators that break them will lose access to DVLA data

Finally. Labour spent 2 years faffing about to make a decision which Conservatives had already approved 2 years ago.
If they’d done this in the summer we’d have had that gas heating British homes this Christmas.
An unnecessary waste of time and money by a party that puts its own interest above the country’s.

Wow. Andy Haldane explicitly endorses Tory approach to economy - 'In today’s hostile environment for borrowers, the route to growth comes from priming the private sector, not pump-priming the public sector'.

Britain has been taxed too much for too long.
Andy Burnham’s answer? More tax.
Conservatives will cut taxes, so you can keep more of what you earn.

Labour must cut spending and live within our means. My warning to Andy Burnham 👇 xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1qKDzWgon…
The warning lights are flashing across the board…
It’s official: a legal investigation has found engineers in Britain’s electricity grid control room are stressed because renewables make it so hard to keep the lights on. And when they raise concerns, managers won’t listen - they only want “good news”

Labour’s answer to everything? More tax.
Ours? Back the businesses keeping our high streets alive and make it cheaper to give young people their first jobs.

This is precisely the message I got on a visit to a family-run manufacturing business yesterday.
Money that could have gone on paying the wages of a new employee is being funnelled instead into paying higher taxes.
Vote Reform, get tantrums, defections and by-elections - funded by the hard-pressed taxpayer.
Councillors elected in May 2026 no longer sitting for the party they were elected for:
Reform UK 61 (4.2%)
Green 14 (2.4%)
Labour 10 (0.9%)
Conservative 7 (0.9%)
Lib Dem 6 (0.7%)
Reform's 61: 36 now independent, 20 left the council, 5 joined another party (3 to Restore Britain).
% is of each party's May intake
Labour cuts £2bn from Army front line.
From the Chancellor who resigned as Defence Secretary because the defence investment plan "falls well short of what is required for defence and the country at this dangerous time".
All the while they refuse to deal with the 1,000 people each day signing up to the welfare system.
These are not serious people.
