An Open Concern About Appearances: The Catholic Church and the Midterms I am Catholic. I say the rosary. I go to Mass. Nothing in what follows is an accusation against the Church, the Pope, or any bishop. It is a concern about how things look from the outside, and how that appearance is landing with millions of Americans right now. This administration created a Justice Department task force on anti-Christian bias, pardoned twenty-three pro-life prisoners, stood up a White House Faith Office and a Religious Liberty Commission, designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern over the killing of Christians, and cut off federal funding to Planned Parenthood. For a Catholic writer, that record is not nothing. It is, on its face, one of the most tangible pro-life and pro-faith agendas in modern presidential history. In January 2025, the same administration suspended the refugee and migrant service contracts that had funded the USCCB and Catholic Charities for decades. Over one hundred million dollars a year. More than ninety-five percent of some program budgets. By spring, staff were laid off. By summer, agencies were closing programs. The money did not come back. Institutions that lose their largest funding stream tend to find their moral vocabulary sharpening in the same direction as their budgets. I am not saying that is what happened. I am saying that is what it looks like, and that appearance is not going unnoticed. Fourteen months later, in April 2026, the public statements from the Vatican and from American bishops toward this administration grew noticeably louder and more pointed than anything seen during the first term. Catholics see it. Non-Catholics see it. And when a bishop speaks out days before a national election against one party’s immigration positions—which are prudential disagreements open to debate—while remaining silent on the other’s platform positions that contradict settled Church teaching on life, on the body, on marriage, the imbalance is impossible to miss. I am not suggesting the Church holds a grudge, or that its silence on one side was bought. I am saying that is the appearance, and appearances are what most Americans, Catholic and not, actually see. When the institution that spent a year without its largest funding stream then directs its public voice at one party near an election—the very party that delivered more concrete protections for Christian life and religious liberty than perhaps any administration in living memory—the appearance is not of a shepherd. It is of a stakeholder. That is the embarrassment I cannot unsee. -- Joseph Fosco October 27, 2026

Lula’s personal attorney, now a judge in Brazil, appears to be presiding over the open rigging of Brazil’s election today. According to Brazilian observers, the corrupt judge waited until pro-Bolsonaro precincts had closed their polls and then said only polls still open—most of which were pro-Lula—could remain open.
A decisão do Min. Zanin provavelmente acarrete a anulação do segundo turno eleitoral no Brasil. Agora é esperar as consequências.

Lula put his own former lawyer on the Supreme Court. He asked the courts for voting to be extended by 2 hours. Skipped the court that should decide it and had that same former lawyer unilaterally decide to order it 2 minutes before polls close. BUT only for places that still had voting open, which were mainly Lula strongholds that were aware of the request and waited for it to be granted. This isn't just optics. They knew exactly what they were doing. It's open corruption.
I don't know enough to claim Lula cheated but....he definitely doesn't care about appearances, that's for sure.

We’re supposed to believe that Nur Omar Mohamed, a colonel in the Somali army, did only other unrelated tasks when all these horrors were being perpetuated by that same army, and none of his work during his entire career had anything to do with the ongoing genocide? As Friday’s Jolt noted, according to the U.S. government, “The term ‘refugee’ does not include any person who ordered, incited, assisted or otherwise participated in the persecution of any person on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.” The additional wrinkle in whether Ilhan Omar obtained citizenship when her father became a citizen is the question of whether he ever qualified as a refugee. The odds of a longtime Somali soldier who rose to the rank of colonel from the 1970s to 1991 who never “ordered, incited, assisted or otherwise participated” in any persecution of the members of the Isaaq tribe are exceptionally low.

Does the left understand how ridiculous it looks to claim anti-Sayed Democrats are more loyal to Israel than America, while simultaneously claiming that any inquiry into El-Sayed’s very real links to the Muslim Brotherhood is an unwarranted attack on his patriotism?

"Without providing evidence?" El-Sayed literally signed a letter in 2012 in support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. His campaign refuses to explain it. His sister said his family was MB. His father in law, who is a founding member of ISNA -- an offshoot of the MB -- donated hundreds of thousands to his campaign. There is not a single anti-MB measure he supports. He says about Islamic terrorists trying to murder Jewish kindergarteners, "Hurt people hurt people," and equates Dearborn-based terrorists trying to kill schoolkids with the IDF's targeted killing of Hezbollah members. He was caught on tape during this campaign saying he wouldn't say anything about Ayatollah Khamenei's death because too many of his constituents were upset about it. He campaigns with Hasan Piker, who says Hamas is better than Israel and speaks warmly of Hezbollah. There is no more thoroughly sourced claim in politics than that El-Sayed is sympathetic to radical Islam and connected to Islamic extremists.

The #1 argument for electing the awful GOP nominee in this race is this, right here. Talarico’s left-wing, woke BS is bad. But his willingness to set fire to the judiciary because his entitled partisan tribe hasn’t gotten all of their desired outcomes recently is dangerous.

The idiotic arguments re property taxes are pretty insane. At the end of the day a free republic is in many ways based off private property, which is not only personal rights but physical property. You can’t have private property with property taxes.

I honestly do not understand how any American who is not already a literal Communist or a literal Jihadist could vote Democrat after hearing what Slotkin said below. This is LITERALLY totalitarianism. It's not the fake "fascism" the Left likes to accuse the Right of, it is the REAL THING. Undeniably. Irrefutably. This is a sitting member of Congress who was in the CIA saying that dissent from what she believes will result in imprisonment. This is straight out of Solzhenitsyn. Straight out of Orwell. This is something an early Nazi would have said in 1932 under the Weimar Republic. Please please PLEASE share her words with everyone you know. The Democrat/Media Complex will try to bury this. It is up to us on social media, on blogs and via texts and emails to get the word out. The only way to stop these monsters is to make sure that voters who don't really keep up on politics understand the actual threat, see it with their own eyes and hear it with their own ears. Please. Spread the word to anyone who will listen. And even those who won't listen.

I see a lot of people trashing Boomers and mocking Ray for complaining about property taxes, insisting those taxes are necessary to fund local services. But I'm ALREADY paying state and county income taxes. Why am I ALSO paying property taxes when much of that money goes toward funding many of the same local services? Here's my bigger issue: Why am I being taxed on the increased value of my home when I haven't actually made a dime from that increase? Some government assessor decides what they THINK my house is worth, and suddenly I owe more? Where exactly is that extra money supposed to come from? I haven't sold my house. I haven't realized a profit. Why not base property taxes on what I actually PAID for my home instead of some hypothetical market value? And I'm not even going to get into the fact that I pay out of pocket to homeschool my kids while still paying taxes to support a bad public school system we don't use. That's a discussion for another day. @RonDeSantis is right about property taxes. You shouldn't have to pay the government rent on a home you already own. Enough already.

Correct. Once home is paid off OR home owner is 65 or retired the property tax should end. Besides, not like we’re getting great roads or schools or services off the jacked up property taxes.
