Chris Hipkins and Labour are misleading Kiwis when they say the only tax they are taking to the election is a Capital Gains Tax. This is untrue. They have already announced a $5 billion Business Tax with their announced axing of Investment Boost. And they have made it clear they will put back in place the Renters Tax by removing interest deductibility for landlords. Labour might think they can get away with misleading Kiwis - but Kiwis know this is the same old tax and spend Labour Party. You can’t trust Labour on Tax.

Extreme weather continues to cause dangerous conditions across the North Island. Right now, the Government is doing everything we can to support those impacted. Minister Mark Mitchell and I have been receiving briefings over the past 24 hours, and we are actively monitoring situations across the country – including the major incident in Mt Maunganui, where the Minister is on the ground. To the emergency responders, Defence Force personnel, and all those who are putting themselves in harm’s way to keep Kiwis safe, the whole country is grateful. We continue to urge people in affected areas to follow the advice of local authorities. More information can be found on your local Civil Defence website.

Great to have a quick yarn with some of the PowerNet crews as they work on restoring power in the rain today and thank them for what they’re doing, with Clutha District Council Mayor-Elect Jock Martin, @MarkMitchellMP and Mark Patterson MP.

Our team have landed in China – a place of enormous economic opportunity for NZ. When we trade with the world, we grow our economy at home. China is our largest trading partner, but there is room for growth and that’s what we will be exploring here. @chrisluxonmp @MarkMitchellMP @LouiseUpston

The same applies to us—we understand how vital sports are for our country and aim to strengthen this relationship further. As the Minister for Sport and Recreation, I will be holding meetings on this subject. There is much we can learn from each other, and we are committed to deepening these ties. Sports diplomacy is a powerful tool, especially in today’s rapidly changing and uncertain world"

I am devastated that Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming has died and another officer is critically injured after a violent incident in Nelson last night. Police across New Zealand do an incredible job keeping us safe and it’s heart-wrenching for an officer to lose her life carrying out that duty. I extend my deepest condolences to Lyn’s loved ones and colleagues and hope for the recovery of those injured. This is a devastating day for Police and for New Zealand. Lyn will never be forgotten.

Saw a comment of someone saying Police going after the gangs the way they are is “a bit full on”. That’s the point. Gangs are no longer above the law.
