Winter in Ottawa can be long, and if people don't get outside and enjoy it they're missing out in so many ways. We're lucky with our winter recreation options, but access could be better- @SJAMWinterTrail improves access to all but is largely volunteer driven.

Last year when we lived in Paris - the winter seemed so long and grey - partly b/c there was no good winter recreation options (other than long walks in the rain along the flooded Seine) - I met another expat from Ottawa, who I hadn't know here...
