AI data centers were on the ballot 41 times in yesterday's US midterms
voters said no almost everywhere
Alhambra, CA: 82% to ban them
Edgewater, FL: 77% to ban them
Trenton, OH: 80% to ban the big ones
history reminder: the US lost the war in Vietnam at the ballot box, not on the battlefield.
good thing @sama has a sense of humor, but this doesn’t change the fact that the statement about RAM was and is a disgrace.
AI girlfriend apps are about to get the same minimum App Store rating as dating apps: 18+ 👀
starting Nov 16, the age rating questionnaire in App Store Connect asks two new things: does your app have Dating and Relationships features (real people or a virtual companion that gets romantic or sexual), and does it share someone's real-world location with others
the part iOS devs should actually know: it's not just dating apps. you answer it on your next update, and every app needs it done by Jan 12, 2027. even a reading tracker like mine
overdue for the companion apps tbh. but it's self-declared, so how does Apple actually check?

Siri AI is about to become a way into your app that skips your UI completely 👀
new in the iOS 27.3 beta: any developer can now plug their app's content and actions into Siri AI with App Intents, and write "skills" that combine several actions into one request
it's a developer preview for now (dev builds and internal TestFlight only), App Store submission opens in the spring
if you ship iOS apps: which action would you hand to Siri first?

fal got so much demand this summer it had to rate-limit its own customers 👀
now it's announced $1.65B across its Series E and F (Sequoia and Bessemer leading, NVIDIA in as a strategic investor). per Bloomberg the new round values it at $16B, double April's $8B, on over $800M in annualized revenue
a lot of the AI image and video apps you scroll past need somewhere to run the models. that unglamorous layer is where the money is landing

Hello fellow users of the internet 👋
My very first #mac app is now officially in #beta and available for download here.
Please check it out and let me know what you think 👇

companies now spend more on AI coding tools than on any other kind of AI app: $34B 👀
Menlo Ventures' 2026 State of Enterprise AI report (out today): enterprise AI spend hit $176.8B by September, up 5.4x from $33B a year ago. coding ($34B) and assistants ($25B) make up 76% of the ~$77B app market, and 96% of coding spend goes to AI-native tools.
makes sense tbh. code is where an agent can check its own work: it builds or it doesn't.

the AI wrote the app. nobody made it lock the database 👀
a German security firm, Crissy Field (with Handelsblatt), looked at 159,041 Lovable projects and found records with email addresses readable on 7,403 sites, no login needed. worst cases: 1,000+ records with passport numbers and 200,000+ chat messages.
not a hack, per the researchers, just database access rules that were never set up properly.
if you shipped something with AI this year: open it logged out in a private window and see what loads.

Out of curiosity, I decided to build a new project, more specifically a new app, but this time for #mac, my first one.
If anyone wants to check it out, there’s a waitlist, I will ship it VERY soon🚢

one engineer designed it, teams of agents built it, a handful of people deployed it 👀
OpenAI just shared how it rebuilt the Git backend behind its whole monorepo, because Codex-era parallel work was too much for the old one (reliability at times fell below 90%). Pando went from kickoff to production in 10 weeks, cut median push latency by nearly 5x, and now serves nearly a petabyte of Git data a day
the detail I'd steal as a solo dev: they wrote a conformance test suite so the agents could test their changes against standard Git behavior
if your agents had to pass your tests before you even looked at the code, what's the first test you'd write?

the riskiest part of AI coding isn't bad code, it's good-looking code nobody actually understands 👀
Addy Osmani calls it "cognitive surrender": the agent's answer quietly becomes your answer. in the research he cites, when the AI was wrong, people still went with it 73% of the time
his fix is simple: guess the answer before you prompt, then read the diff like a junior wrote it
honest question for devs: when did you last write code with the agent off?

btw, two guys from @cracovianum wrote a fantastic guide about everything you should know about the #Midterms2026 #USA
worth a read 👇

On 3 November Americans elect Congress and 36 governors. Republicans hold 53 Senate seats and 220 House seats today.
Which races will decide the majority?

a YC startup wants to replace your iPhone with a phone where AI is the interface 👀
Cyclon: you ask, and it works across the apps you already have, builds the ones you're missing, and keeps going in the background. $199 refundable deposit toward an estimated $699, custom phone expected Q2 2027
as an iOS dev, "builds the ones you're missing" is the line that got me. if a phone can make a simple app on the spot, what's left for us is what it can't fake: taste, real data, trust
iOS devs, does that worry you at all?

over 2.5 billion active Apple devices 👀
that's the installed base Apple cited on Monday's earnings call, John Ternus's first as CEO. record $114.5B September quarter, Services at an all-time high of $31.6B
and the ticket for an indie dev to ship an app into all that is still $99 a year. best leverage deal in tech imo

Goldman Sachs just took Claude Code away from most of its traders and bankers 👀
per Bloomberg, guidance updated in October limits the advanced AI coding tools to engineers and "strats", after a review of productivity and risk. back in July its CIO was praising non-engineers for vibe coding their own tools
code used to be the leverage nobody had to ask permission for. at Goldman you now do
fair risk call or a step backwards?

Anthropic brought in ~$17B last quarter and still slipped into an operating loss 👀
revenue was up 1,127% year over year, but $5.0B of compute bought on short-term deals (which cost way more than multiyear ones, per the filing) turned Q2's $974M operating profit into a $567M operating loss
growing this fast means paying rush prices for GPUs. best problem to have, still a painful bill
