To finalise this, I think what's most important to recognise is that if you are sending a patient to an ED, their GP, a physio, mental health team etc, the value they provide to that patient lies in their knowledge and expertise, not any one investigation or treatment
Paramedics of all settings, I implore you, if you were sending a patient to ED please do not tell them they *will* receive an investigation/treatment or be seen by X specialist. I encounter this often and it can lead to conflict. I suspect same is true for referring back to GP.
If I am asking a patient to follow up with their GP, and they ask what the GP will do, I make it clear that they *may* want to investigate further and this could include (for example) blood tests, outpatient imaging or a specialty referral -
Had my first experience of a patient expressing antivax beliefs recently
Had hardly sat down when they launched unprompted into a tirade hitting all the conspiracy hot topics
It was bizarre seeing face to face the stream of consciousness that normally I only encounter online
Is the adjective a patient uses (or is lead to use) to describe their pain ever actually useful for determining its cause?

New Spinal Red Flags Resource created with Dr. Yvonne Harrington. Covers key red flags for the Big 6 with links to more info. Aimed at GPs but may be useful for others. Hoping this will aid early detection.
Please share with your GP colleagues. Feedback welcome as always :)
Whilst there are absolutely legitimate concerns underpinning it, the current level of inter-professional conflict on SoMe is deeply concerning.
It's not clear if this sentiment is widely held in practice, but the 'vocal minority' argument has fallen down at every poll/vote.
For the first time in many years I find myself not in formal education alongside work.
Now planning CPD for the year, wanting to really develop my foundational knowledge on topics mapped to the HEE EP framework.
Recommendations for good resources? Particularly A&P, happy to pay

With measles on the uptick despite the availability of a highly effective vaccine, it's worth reflecting on Roald Dahl's account of the final day of his 7-year-old daughter's life.
At least eight people have gotten measles in an outbreak in the Philadelphia area.
One child was sent to daycare despite quarantine instructions, and four others there subsequently got infected. nbcnews.com/health/health-ne…
Feeling increasingly disillusioned with healthcare, but how do you even go about pivoting from a career you're a decade deep into?
Lots of talk about clarity of roles. I introduce only as 'paramedic' (not PP/SP) & still regularly need to correct patients who call me Dr (suspect male privilege here as never assumed to be nurse). Presumably difficult for layperson to conceptually separate paramedic from 🚑
Which is hardly surprising given that not infrequently HCPs will refer to how I 'used' to be a paramedic when in 🚑 and collectively referred to as ENP.
I don't think the generic uniform helps either, I much prefer my locum scrubs with 'paramedic practitioner' embroidered
Seems to be a resurgence of 'greedy doctors' narrative. Now I'm not saying that is a valid comment, but surely it doesn't matter?
If you want a service, and 90% of the providers of that service say they're unwilling to provide it for less than £X, isn't that just capitalism?
Surprisingly tame in ED last night given it was NYE, but as someone that doesn't do nights anymore I clearly had forgotten just how much night shifts absolutely wreck you.
It comes as no surprise that, after watching Chicken Run for the first time, my 4yo identified most with Mrs Tweedy and insists that's what I call him now
A mixed year of personal and professional events: turned 30, non-medical prescriber, 3260 UCAT, youngest son Dx cerebral palsy, cracked toilet training w/ middle son, deepened 🏍️ passion (?obsession)
Ending the year feeling less competent at my job, but a more competent parent
