I'll be doing a deep dive into the reporting process and explaining a lot more about this story at 10 a.m. ET with @Isaac__Trotter on the @EyeOnCBBPodcast. We'll take questions in the chat near the end of the show as well.

The approximate avg cost to build a high-major in 2026: $13.5M.
I thought the B1G would be closer to the Big East than it is. Gargantuan 🏈 investments are why it barely beats the B12. And as we detail in the story, the ACC has the most fascinating top-to-bottom NIL disparity.
CBS Sports relied on sourcing at every high-major program that included some mix of head coaches, assistants, ADs, GMs, agents or third-party NIL consultants. Here is the approximate average value of every power conference in 2026.

The 10 largest year-over-year upward movers in the NIL space, relative to where they were in the national hierarchy more than a year ago:
Cincinnati
LSU
Mississippi
Missouri
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Pitt
South Carolina
Texas
Xavier
A lot of SEC money.

RJ Luis won't be an LSU Tiger, but Salou Niang and Brice Dessert will be on the roster this season.
Other court cases are still ongoing, of course.

Lots of LSU news to share. First: RJ Luis will NOT be cleared to play by the SEC and LSU has given up its fight for him to be eligible, sources told @CBSSports. Luis would be in violation of the SEC's rule that prevents players returning to college after signing a pro contract.

Sources also tell CBS Sports that LSU incoming center Brice Dessert, a 7-footer from France, will soon be officially cleared to play for Will Wade's program. "There’s no independent SEC basis to deny him. He doesn’t run afoul of any SEC rules," one source said.

A fitting tribute for one of the most beloved people in college sports. Kenny Klein deserves an everlasting honor such as this one.
He spent his career celebrating Louisville’s legends. Now, he’ll take his rightful place among them.
On Jan. 2, we’ll honor Kenny Klein with a permanent place in the rafters of the KFC Yum! Center. We love you, Kenny. ❤️
