Extremely excited to announce our first grants for the Public Data for Health program at the OpenAI Foundation, amounting to $125M+ across a wide range of fields. More here + characteristics of datasets we are most excited about:

We need bio mega projects
Dr. Max Unfried talks about why larger projects are still needed. youtu.be/v36sJyfF8aM?is=_Nqr…

Glad that many Thiel Fellows are in the Longevity Space! Wishing that they become part of the unicorn club!
Here’s my current thinking about what controls maximum lifespan, why aging biology needs to embrace mega projects, and how such infrastructure could look like for comparative biology!

Very short but on point summary of some recent talks I gave on maximum lifespan, comparative biology, and biomedical mega projects!
To find why some mammals live many times longer than others, @MaxUnfried of @TTIScience proposes a shared freezer bank of tissue from about 200 species, young to old, all stored and measured the same way, so lab quirks stop passing for biology. For now it is a plan.

The pain and suffering and massive expense of the litigation was worth it not only for vindication by a jury of my peers but also to reveal exactly how scientific institutions decided not to follow due process (which is almost akin to scientific method)
MIT thinks it can put on a show claiming to value merit to keep the DOJ and the White House off its back.
David Sabatini’s case exposes that smokescreen. Their true colors were on display throughout his ordeal. Scientific excellence was disposable when it conflicted with their political priorities. They have hollowed out the science while continuing to trade on the reputation it built. Their real priorities are far removed from the excellence they advertise.
Excellent article from @mrddmia.

Pretty horrible judgment by university leadership.
Troubling evidence revealed in Sabatini case at @mit
Kristin Knouse messaged that Sabatini was going to be "Weinstein’ed out of science"; that she was "out for blood"
University administration ran an investigation which had a predetermined outcome

Tomorrow at 11:30 AM PT join @VadimGladyshev @gladyshev_lab, a leader in the science of aging, and me, for a conversation on biomarkers, clocks, rejuvenation, AI, and where the field is headed

Am I missing something?
Where do the inputs to train this simulation come from? Compute is not the bottleneck in biology.
It’s estimated we have only sequenced genomes for 1% of eukaryotic species, and DNA is just the beginning.
Infinite compute can’t help you simulate a system that’s never even been observed or measured.
If you had an exponential amount of compute you could solve simulate biology exactly and wouldn't need to run any experiments.
Some of you will think "of course, but that's an unrealistic assumption" and others will think "no, you need experiments even with that much compute. That's just How It's Done".
You would of course need evaluations once you have a solution, but you don't in principle need experiments to find it: Experiments are a way to save compute, dating from a time when it was much more expensive.
And I think the presentation is exponential but real systems aren't irreducibly exponential. AlphaFold worked, after all.
Erst kamen sie für die Synagogen.
Dann für die Kirchen.
And zuletzt für die Universitäten.
Would be cool to see that Roman Catholic Religious Orders like the Teutonic Order, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Sovereign Military Order of Malta take an active interest in longevity science and medicine.
Hinton got it wrong.
It’s actually okay if it has the desire and wants to kill you.
It just must not be able to kill you.
In the case of the tiger this means chaining it, pulling its teeth, and taking off its claws.

I’m convinced 95% of being a high performer is to just do 5 things:
- Be obsessed like a psychopath
- Have delusional optimism
- Avoid unserious people
- Take asymmetric risks
- Be relentless
Hope we will also get war mammoths to secure land border, and war whales to secure sea borders.
JUST IN: Palmer Luckey's genetically modified military dog startup, Warhound, comes out of stealth, aiming to create enhanced canines for the U.S. military.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is NOT Palmer's company at all, his company Anduril is only supplying the tech for the dogs, and this is a wholly owed Collosal entiity
