This is as critical as Iโve ever seen Rooney about his former club. Heโs raging, and rightly so. Michael Carrick is a Manchester United legend and a close friend of Rooneyโs, so this one clearly hits a little harder than usual.
On Stick to United with @markgoldbridge, he went straight for the players who love the spotlight when things are good but disappear the second it gets tough, like Bruno, Martinez, Rashford and the rest:
โWhereโs Rashford now? Things get tough, whereโs Rashford? You need to play through the pain barrier. You need to be ready, to give everything for the club, and theyโre not doing that.โ
He didnโt stop there. After that abysmal performance against Bournemouth, Rooney said he was pleased when the fans stopped clapping Carrick off and turned their fury on the players:
โI was really pleased when they switched from clapping Michael off the pitch, and then theyโve turned on them players. Theyโre not fit to wear that shirt at the minute. I donโt think they ever will be. The least you can do is work and show that it means something and that you care.โ
Rooney said the five-year-olds he coaches understand something these multi-millionaires donโt: You run. You chase. You fight for every ball. This squad canโt even manage the basics!
Rooney finished by expressing frustration that the same players are doing it again to another manager, and will almost certainly get away with it:
โHonestly, watching itโs just so annoying and frustrating and disappointing that these players are gonna get away with it again.โ
Ruthless from Rooney. He is speaking for the fans here. They know Carrick hasnโt been good enough, but heโs a club legend who cares deeply about Manchester United and is giving his all.
The players have given up. They donโt even run, and that is unforgivable! The fans will back you no matter what if you give your best, but they will never accept what these players are doing.
Right now these players are a disgrace to the shirt, to the badge, and to everything Manchester United is supposed to stand for.
Drop the so called 'world class players' and bring in youngsters from the youth teams. Build your team around the likes of Lacey, Fletchers, Amass and then include youth squad. They're the only ones with passion for the Club #MUFC โ at Offaly, Ireland
