It’s not just famous for #Pringles ! 🙏⛑️
That's correct! Cincinnati was the first to introduce civilian ambulance care in the U.S. AND the first professional and fully paid fire department. Thanks for sharing a bit of our @CincyFireEMS history!
Such a worthwhile listen. Complacency, pitfalls, processes and love all in the mix. A reminder how a second or two in time can change the trajectory of your life.
I heard this podcast on the weekend and feel it should be mandatory listening for all regulators and regulated professionals!
It's about a very senior civil servant who lived a blameless life until his late 30s, when he accidentally left top secret files on a train. Ultimately, he was demoted, lost his security clearance and got a conviction for breaching the Official Secrets Act.
There are many interesting nuggets in the podcast, but I was particularly struck by a few which could have come from almost any #FitnessToPractise case:
~ How he initially handled his mistake (with a lack of immediate candour) only made things worse and was a reminder that how you handle any mistake is often much more important than the error itself.
~ The feelings of absolute worthlessness and despair, and his serious contemplation of suicide (over an inadvertent error), is something which we see time and again. Regulators need to be reminded that the purpose of fitness to practise proceedings is not to punish (it's public protection). Often the regulated individual is the most vulnerable individual in the picture and needs to be treated accordingly - or, at least, treated humanely.
~ You can get through pretty much anything.

JUST IN: The man who stopped the school shooting in Bend, Oregon, has been identified as 36-year-old Kalub Giamanco.
Giamanco, a carpenter, was reportedly driving home for lunch when he heard gunshots.
After hearing the gunshots, Giamanco, who has a concealed carry permit, followed the suspect into the school.
He then shot and killed 16-year-old John J Griffin moments after the teen opened fire into a special education classroom.
Giamanco, who has two children of his own who attend the school, is family friends with one of the victims, a 7-year-old who uses a wheelchair and was shot in the face.
The 7-year-old survived and is in the hospital.
Three children at Silver Rail Elementary School were killed. Their ages are 5, 8, and 11.
According to Giamanco's brother, Giamanco doesn't feel like a hero because he feels guilty for not being able to save more children.
You are a hero, Kalub.

Terribly sad to hear of Chad Gilbert’s passing. Many years ago I was lucky enough to party with these guys in a Camden rock bar. 45 is no age. @XChadballX @newfoundglory

As I’m putting my kids to bed this evening, I want to remind you that you matter.
Believe it or not, there are people out there that are rooting for your success; people that want to see you do your best.
There are resources out there if you are suffering.
The world is better with you in it.
High time the UK Gov creates a robust task force to track down those exploiting the welfare system.
We also need to focus on what people *can* do to contribute to society. Empowerment is a win-win for the individual and the economy.
What a man. Complacency kills — 25 years on, I still don’t think the western world understands this.
25 years on, and the world is more unstable than ever. We must never forget the heroic actions on that day. #September11
