Tony Burton appeared in all six Rocky movies as Apollo and later Rocky’s trainer, Duke. He’s not given a lot to do in the movies but this scene from Rocky II is very underrated and might be his best one.

In a recent conversation on Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show, BAFTA-winning actress Naomi Ackie spoke candidly about the realities of being a woman of colour in the entertainment industry “We've been saying it for years, no one cares... and just in every industry, I think there is this weird thing that happens where the expectations of you as whatever your job role is, are much higher. Like you have to do a lot more to prove yourself. Why is the phone not ringing as much? I did this, what I thought was a really cool thing. I won a BAFTA. Why is it not hitting in the same way? And it causes a lot of self-doubt. You have to really motivate yourself, and what ends up happening, what I experienced, was like a lot of like, 'You're amazing, you're amazing,' but then never like a kind of return on that. And that makes you put a lot of pressure on yourself. If you're already a perfectionist, that just makes it so much worse. And it also makes you really mad, and angry, and watchful, hypervigilant. Then when you do get a job, you are applying so much pressure to get it perfect, to try and reach that mountaintop. But the goalposts keep moving. Women of colour inhabit a space that is very unique, that they're both women, and they are people of colour. It's angering. I've almost surrendered to it. It's frustrating and needs to be changed. But within the system we live in, I don't see that happening anytime soon. So instead now what I'm doing is doing my work really well, being myself, not putting pressure on myself, and doing what I want."

"Ain't Nobody" almost never happened. Rufus initially rejected the song because its unusual drum machine pattern and minimalist arrangement sounded too different from the band's previous material. Keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski insisted on keeping it, believing it had the potential to become something special. According to Wolinski, producer Quincy Jones later wanted Michael Jackson to record the song for Thriller but he refused because he believed it belonged to Chaka Khan and Rufus. Released in 1983 as one of the studio recordings on the live album Stompin' at the Savoy, "Ain't Nobody" became Rufus and Chaka Khan's final hit together. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart. It also won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1984. Its innovative blend of funk, R&B and electronic production helped transform it into a timeless classic that continues to be sampled and covered decades after its release.

Damon Wayans says that even at 65 years old, if Keenen tells him to get him a soda, he's going to go get it, because in their family, it’s all about an unspoken code of respect, seniority, and brotherly hierarchy. “Yeah, but like even now, this is how my family is. Like, I'm 65 years old and Keenen goes, "Go get me a soda," and I got to go get it.” “If Marlon walks in a room, and you know, if I walk in a room and there's no seats, Marlon gets up. Sean and Keenen will sit, and Marlon will get up and say, "You sit here." And my son will have to do the same thing.” “That's why I love the fact that they have children. Because I go to my theater sometimes and little Damon's there and Mikey's there, and as soon as I walk in the room, the youngest one gets up and lets me sit down without question, and I love that.” “It's just how we do with each other. It's just a quiet code. Some things you don't have to teach, it's just what you see.”

⚖️ In 1963, Perry Mason needed surgery. So CBS called Bette Davis. Raymond Burr went into the hospital that winter, and Perry Mason still had episodes to make. Instead of shutting down, the show brought in big-name guest stars to take over the courtroom. The first was Bette Davis. In “The Case of Constant Doyle,” which aired January 31, 1963, she played a lawyer defending a teenager accused of murder, with Paul Drake (William Hopper) working the case beside her. Perry didn’t vanish completely. The writers put him in the hospital too, and he appears briefly by telephone from his room. Over the next three episodes, Michael Rennie, Hugh O’Brian and Walter Pidgeon also stepped in as the defense attorney. Two-time Oscar winner Bette Davis, filling in for Perry Mason, and Perry calling in from his hospital bed.

Goldie Hawn personally chose Eileen Brennan, who stole Private Benjamin. Almost every major studio rejected it for lacking a male lead, but it made $100M on a $9M budget. Brennan is the only actor nominated for an Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe for playing the same role.
