Low wages are another form of corporate welfare. Our taxes are paying what Amazon, McDonalds & Walmart 'can't afford.'

It’s important that companies that enable this admin’s bad behavior be held accountable.
Courts won’t hold them accountable. But the court of public opinion certainly will (and we will publish the name of EVERY SINGLE contractor on East Potomac).
Riverbend Landscapes & Tree Service was complicit in what took place yesterday and everyone should know it. Absolutely disgusting and shameful act from this company.

A car jumped deep into the sidewalk on Connecticut Ave above Parthenon, across from the Safeway, around 1pm today. No one was hurt, thankfully. Driver said her foot got stuck on the accelerstor while she was trying to park.

Generation X (1965–1980):
• Ages 46 to 61
• Looking somewhere between 29 and “none of your business”
• Didn’t grow up sheltered — we were basically turned loose outdoors
• Independent at 10; still refusing to act like adults at 50
• Our childhood would make a modern parent group chat implode
Which is why our internal mantra remains: “It’ll work out. I’ve got this.”

The abuse the ex wife of the Maine ICE agent details in NPR interview is horrifying, including a 2022 police report of throwing his 13 year old daughter through a coffee table, a voice mail from last year saying her throat should be cut, and pulling a gun on her in the shower. She questions if ICE runs even a basic background check on recruits.

NPR did learn that there's a trick if you are applying in person in Washington and do not want a passport with Trump's image: Choose extra pages. The State Department says the 250th commemorative passport is only available in the standard, 28-page book

For those not in DC, just an observation on how colossally screwed up the America 250 celebration is. Whatever the opposite of freedom is, this is it.
The National Mall and other previously public areas nearby are a bewildering maze of walls, fences, and restrictions that stop any access except thru a few secured entrances. Once you get on there's a bizarre ersatz "America's state fair" that mixes lame state tourism materials with pro-Trump displays.
While you're wandering through the blazing heat trying to figure out how to access what should be areas open to the public, you are repeatedly blasted by deafening flyovers from military jets, signaling America's desire to intimidate the world through armed force.
Happy 250th! We'll get through it...

The Southern District of New York is the office that prosecuted Trump on 34 felony counts. He is still appealing those convictions.
The lawyer he just named to run that office - James M. McDonald - is on the legal team handling that appeal.
McDonald is a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell. He is part of the team that last month secured the Justice Department's decision to drop a fraud and conspiracy case against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani - a case brought under the Biden administration and killed under this one.
SDNY has jurisdiction over terrorism, espionage, securities fraud, and public corruption. It is arguably the most consequential prosecutor's office in the country. Trump is now placing his personal defense attorney in charge of it.
Jay Clayton, who previously held the SDNY job, is being moved to director of national intelligence - a role that opened when Tulsi Gabbard resigned and that Trump briefly tried to fill with Bill Pulte, the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, before congressional pressure forced a different choice.
The chain here is not complicated. The office that convicted him gets his lawyer. The intelligence community gets the man who ran the housing finance regulator. A personal attorney now controls a portfolio that includes public corruption cases.
This is what the completion of the project looks like.
President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will appoint one of his personal lawyers to serve as the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, filling a pending vacancy after Trump tapped the man currently in the job to be director of national intelligence.

BREAKING: We're suing the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service over their plan to give away 715 acres of a public wildlife refuge to billionaire corporation Space X.
Americans shouldn't be sacrificing their public lands to subsidize a company owned by the richest man in the world.
This makes you street smart. No joke.
1. Never argue near glass, traffic, or stair edges.
2. If you sense attention but can't locate it, change direction twice
3. Stand sideways on train platforms, not facing the tracks.
4. Never wear both earbuds in unfamiliar places
5. If someone gives you too many choices under pressure, refuse all.
6. Never argue while seated if you feel unsafe stand first.

Florida paid a portable toilet company called Doodie Calls more than $92 million over six months to haul wastewater out of the Everglades. The state projected it would pay Doodie Calls $480 million over two years. For comparison, building a sewage treatment plant for a city of 10,000 people costs about $5 million.
That is one vendor. At one facility. Built in eight days on an Everglades airstrip using hurricane disaster funds because Ron DeSantis declared immigration a state of emergency in 2023 to access a $5 billion fund set aside for floods and hurricanes.
The facility costs between $1.2 million and $3 million per day to operate. A conservative estimate puts the annual per-capita cost at $500,000 per detainee. Florida spends $30,000 a year to house a convicted criminal in a state prison. The math on Alligator Alcatraz is not tougher than a prison. It is more than sixteen times more expensive.
Three quarters of the men held there have never been convicted of a crime. They are awaiting civil immigration proceedings. They are being held in kennels - cages with steel mesh sides, 16 bunks, three toilets, brightly lit 24 hours a day. Amnesty International documented what it called deliberate neglect designed to dehumanize, including credible allegations of men held in stress positions in direct sunlight without food or water for hours at a time.
Governor Braun opened the Speedway Slammer at an Indiana prison. The Cornhusker Clink in Nebraska. The Louisiana Lockup at Angola. The naming contest is ongoing. The cruelty is the point. The cost is someone else's problem. Florida's emergency fund has dwindled to $200 million. The facility cannot run to the end of the year.
The men in the cages are still there.
The immigrant-detention facility Alligator Alcatraz, which may soon be shut down, has been a cruel and costly publicity stunt, Eric Schlosser argues. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…
