Tasmania has until recently, been the jurisdiction leading the way on #OPCAT implementation. However, the Tas Govt has only allocated $300,000 per year for the next few years, despite the required $1.4 million per year. This is just not ok.

@TasLiberal & @TasmanianLabor are captured by pokies industry through combination of donations & political threats.
With Ferguson's exit from Cabinet it looks like nation-leading pokies card will be abandoned by Rockliff Govt on a confected economic pretext purchased from Deloitte.
A @jeremyrockliff backflip on the pokies card will have a devastating economic & human impact - it will cost lives. #politas

The removal of poker machines from pubs and clubs was a central issue in the 2018 Tasmanian election. Since then people have lost more than $1 billion to around 3300 poker machines around the state. @BobBurtonoz reports on prospects for change #politas

The @GrattanInst report is wrong. It says Tasmanians lose $120 Million to Pokies each year. This's what people lose in just hotels. It doesn't include the main #politas Pokies Barns, @WrestPointTas and the Launceston Country Club
Tasmanians lose over $180 Million each year.

👋 We had an amazing time at Tasmania’s Let Them Eat Cake event for the Women’s Network over the weekend, sharing our ideas, vision, and passion for an Australian republic over some cake and tea.
A special thanks to our Tasmanian parliamentarians - the Honourable Ruth Forrest (MLC for Murchison), the Honourable Meg Webb (MLC for Nelson), and Helen Burnet (Greens MP for Clark) – for joining us and enthusiastically endorsing the vital role women will play in shaping Australia’s future as a republic.
We also thank Senator Carol Brown who was unfortunately unable to attend but who made time to speak with Tasmanian Convenor Wendy Le Cornu about a republic.
The Women’s Network is working hard to make an Australian republic happen – together we can build a brighter, independent future for our nation.

👋 The women of the Tasmanian Branch Council of the Australian Republic Movement are running a free event, ‘Let Them Eat Cake!’, on Saturday 10 August.
We will discuss the important role that women (and all who identify as women) can have in advocating for a republic with an Australian as our Head of State.
Let’s talk about the reasons why we need an Australian republic, what we think is important and how we make it happen.

The Tasmanian Government’s announcement of 12 month delay to the introduction of the universal, pre-commitment gaming card is disappointing and will result in more Tasmanians being harmed by gambling.
