ALT Join us for a one-time-only special event with live music by Grammy-winning blues-rocker Fantastic Negrito, who will perform an original score to Rick Prelinger’s collage film Lost Landscapes of Oakland. Rick Prelinger’s Lost Landscapes projects are evolving compendiums of footage from amateurs, industrials, and newsreels that present city-specific histories. This piece, created by Prelinger and alex cruse, brings us rare and rediscovered images of Oakland and the East Bay.

ALT Join us for a special evening as Fantastic Negrito adds his own soundtrack to a screening of Lost Landscapes of Oakland (Rick Prelinger, USA 2014–20, 70 min), one of Prelinger’s evolving city-specific compendiums of footage from amateurs, industrials, and newsreels; urban portraits forged with ephemera of events and people rarely seen, forgotten, or pushed aside by more “official” versions of history. Oakland-based musician Fantastic Negrito is the ideal artist to bring a musical soundscape to these landscapes. Born Xavier Dphrepaulezz, he taught himself guitar, piano, and drums and started writing songs after moving to Oakland at age 12.. Director Rick Prelinger founded Prelinger Archives in 1982.. In addition to his work as an archivist & filmmaker, he is a writer & professor.. at UC Santa Cruz. Among his films are Panorama Ephemera (2004) and many iterations of the Lost Landscape series that in addition to Oakland, include works devoted to San Francisco, Detroit, & NYC
