My poem for this year by Ella Wheeler Wilcox What can be said in New Year rhymes, That’s not been said a thousand times? The new years come, the old years go, We know we dream, we dream we know. We rise up laughing with the light, We lie down weeping with the night. We hug the world until it stings, We curse it then and sigh for wings. We live, we love, we woo, we wed, We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead. We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear, And that’s the burden of a year.

A Date with Spring by John Agard #WorldPoetryDay2025 Got a date with spring Got to look me best. Of all the trees I’ll be the smartest dressed. Perfumed breeze behind me ear. Pollen accessories all in place. Raindrop moisturizer for me face. Sunlight tints to spruce up the hair. What’s the good of being a tree if you can’t flaunt your beauty? Winter, I was naked Exposed as can be. Me wardrobe took off with the wind. Life was a frosty slumber. Now, spring, here I come. Can’t wait to slip in to me little green number.

Alexander Pushkin's poem can remind us how to shape our future with hope. If you were deceived by life, Don’t feel dismal, don’t get mad! Be at ease and don’t feel sad: The days of joy will soon arrive! The heart can’t wait for this to pass; The present is depressing here: All is fleeting rather fast; That which passes will be dear.
