According to local reports, fierce clashes are ongoing between the armed men and security forces, while local traders say numerous vehicles belonging to ordinary citizens have been destroyed, resulting in losses estimated at hundreds of millions of Pakistani rupees.
Many Pakistanis are claiming that the Pakistani military itself orchestrated the incident amid pressure from the United States to close the border. These claims further suggest that Pakistan has been portraying the closure as a counterterrorism measure to justify the decision domestically (Lahori chooran), while separate reports suggest that the Iraq border has also been closed at Washington’s behest.
