Sometimes it's the little things that make my day. Found my first Nickar nut at Traigh Eais this afternoon. This tropical drift seed, once prized as a talisman in the Outer Hebrides, has floated all the way from the Caribbean before making landfall on Barra.

My only B terrestris was blown off the mahonia 7 days ago. Could she survive the next 5 days of torrential rain, gales & cold? What do I find today but her plus a new bee on winter honeysuckle w/ baskets full of gorse pollen @iancbeavis @StevenFalk1 @B_Strawbridge N Cumbria coast

Have just found my old (2011) photo of the otters beside the lake at Ambleside. There was a small family (2 offspring) on that occasion but I am not sure if they’re still there?
