To translate this gem: "Why should we care about the river getting contaminated when there is plenty of water and its price is $0? If the water gets contaminated, it will become scarce and no longer be free, so someone will take over the river, set up a business, and clean it."🤦‍♀️
“Una empresa contamina el río. ¿Y? ¿Dónde está el daño? Puede contaminar todo lo que quiera!! El agua sobra, cuando haya escasez nos preocupamos por la contaminación" Qué persona más inútil e ignorante.

Govt minister Angela Eagle on the US/Israeli war on Iran: "We have always wanted a de-escalation of this conflict.. the faster that we can see a de-escalation of that conflict the better for everybody" So why have you been allowing the US to use British bases to bomb Iran?

Labour is extending Palantir's NHS contract. Andy Burnham's Labour now behaving as badly as Keir Starmer's Labour. Different leader. Same disappointing choice.

Just remember: 1. Spending creates income. 2. Loans create deposits. 3. Taxes do not fund spending. 4. Government deficits create non-government financial surpluses. 5. Real resources, not money, constrain sovereign government spending.

The word “deficit”, when referring to government finances, is descriptively correct in accounting terms but rhetorically misleading, because in ordinary English it carries the sense of a shortage, inadequacy or failure. In this context, however, it simply describes a difference between government expenditure and receipts over an accounting period. It does not mean that the government itself is “short” of money. Compare: “The government ran a £100bn deficit.” with: “The government added £100bn of net sterling financial assets to the non-government sector.” They describe the same accounting outcome, yet provoke completely different intuitions. This is not to say that all government deficits produce good economic outcomes. A deficit may contribute to inflation; the composition of spending may be wasteful; or fiscal policy may produce an undesirable distribution of resources. Equally, a deficit may accompany price stability; the composition of spending may promote efficiency and productive capacity; or fiscal policy may produce a desirable distribution of resources. None of these outcomes necessarily follows from the fact that the government’s accounting balance carries a minus sign. It depends on the economic circumstances, the level and composition of spending and taxation, and the productive limits of the economy. A government “deficit”, then, identifies a residual accounting balance, not a deficiency in the government’s finances. The mistake is to import the ordinary-language meaning of deficiency into a national-accounting identity.

When the government first published Palantir’s contract, 417 out of its 586 pages were entirely blacked out. We took legal action and forced them to reveal crucial details about protecting personal data. Now, ministers are at it again. We were in court this week: goodlaw.social/wfnc

Neither Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland use Palantir. Just England. There is absolutely no measurable benefits from using Palantir and no reason why England cannot stop using Palantir.

Palantir have paid huge sums to former Labour ministers to lobby for this. The NHS sees no convincing patient benefit. Like the US told Trump this week, we're done with big tech corporations taking over our democracy and public assets. Labour won't stand up to them. We will.

Bernie Sanders: It is not an accident that Elon Musk puts a whole lot of money into right-wing extremist parties in Germany and elsewhere, why Trump pays attention to right-wing parties in Latin America, and why this issue of oligarchy is not just an American issue. You've got a small number of people with unbelievable wealth who are having enormous impact on the economic and political life of the entire world.

New headlines suggest Palantir is staying put in the NHS for a while longer. Here’s why that shouldn’t happen ❌ Invite your MP to an event that will expose the truth about the spy-tech firm 👇 actionnetwork.org/letters/ur…

🚨 Palantir entered the NHS for £1 during Covid. Then it became a £23.5mn contract. Then a £330mn contract. Now ministers admit it is so deeply embedded that removing it would be too disruptive. Whatever the original intention, this is textbook vendor lock-in: the customer becomes dependent upon the supplier, and dependency becomes the supplier’s greatest protection. The proposed two-year extension must therefore be treated as an emergency extraction period, not another comfortable renewal. During that time, the government must require: • complete data portability and open standards; • independent access to the system architecture; • transfer of knowledge and skills to the NHS; • a tested migration plan with firm deadlines; • government step-in rights; and • a procurement process that is not designed around Palantir’s existing product. Palantir must not be allowed to shape the problem, define the requirements and then win again because only Palantir can satisfy them. And calling the replacement “British” is meaningless unless Britain controls its intellectual property, technology and future development. A £1 foothold has become national dependency. That is not sovereignty and it is precisely why sovereignty is now necessary.

***EXCLUSIVE*** Democrats are preparing to use their new power in Congress to force the DoJ to hand over the unredacted Epstein files needed by Scotland Yard to pursue a case against Lord Mandelson, @Telegraph can reveal. The party plans to use its incoming control of Congress to compel the release of documents that could prove crucial to bringing criminal charges against the former ambassador. Democrats are also planning a renewed push to summon Lord Mandelson before Congress to answer questions about his links to Jeffrey Epstein, after he rebuffed previous invitations to give evidence, sources said. The intervention could throw a lifeline to Scotland Yard’s investigation, which has stalled amid delays by the Justice Department in handing over the original documents. w/ @bsmithjourno

.@AbdulElSayed makes the fundamental point that criticism of Israel's misconduct is not necessarily a swipe at Jews any more than criticism of Egypt's misconduct is is a swipe at Arabs. If you don't care for human rights for all, you don't actually care about human rights at all.
I've been in politics for a quarter century. It's hard to express how staggering it is to see a conversation like this on corporate US media. The Morning Joe panel gobsmacked by the directness of @AbdulElSayed's points. (clip via @DropSiteNews)

There is a contractual break point between Palantir and the NHS which ends in December. The government either begins the withdrawal of Palantir services from the NHS, or it continues for a further two years, then until 2031. Seems like Tom Watson has already earned his keep.
Palantir’s Tom Watson, ex-Labour MP, wrote to Yvette Cooper last month saying the controversial US company could help boost the UK’s tech sovereignty, letters show. Weeks later, sources say the UK is extending its NHS contract for two more years bit.ly/4zrbMYF
