Here's an exercise to help you with box breathing. Breath with the dot and follow the instructions. This can help you to exit fight or flight mode from your sympathetic nervous system and help you enter rest and digest mode from your parasympathetic nervous system. #thursdayvibes
After over 20 years as a mechanic, this man had a different calling and became a doctor. Finished med school at 47 and is a doc at Cleveland Clinic at 51.
Deeply inspiring story @vanromo
Please do a follow-up on his heroic wife! Because wow!

On beauty
Replying to @culturaltutor
Beauty is that aesthetic quality which elevates ordinary things into something more meaningful.
It is what gives us - humans - something more than just a material, automated, machine-like existence.

It's taken me years to figure this out, and it's certainly not revelatory. But for what it's worth, the most powerful tool I've found for staying motivated to work toward massive, unwieldy, ultra-distal goals is accepting—without judgment—that sometimes, I won't be.

What we resource demonstrates what we value.
Learning and working environments within which health care professionals can thrive should be everyone's goal, to benefit both staff and patients. This requires investment in culture, both $$ and more.
Interesting take from the US - "We Know the Real Cause of the Crisis in Our Hospitals. It’s Greed."
Yet having a system without profit motive doesn't take away the problem. Creating working environments which support & nourish healthcare staff much more than ££.

Self-acceptance is not an epiphany that you have one day and then Boom! Lifelong self-compassion about your flaws and the ways you fall short of your ideals.
It’s like a muscle. Exercise it regularly or it will atrophy, and that judgmental, self-critical voice will zoom back in.
#Stigma and shame about mental illness are as harmful *if not MORE harmful* than mental illness symptoms!
Based on that, I hope the tweets from @doc_bipolar are as contagious as #Omicron
Go read 10 now and see what I’m talking about!
I have type 2 #bipolardisorder. One of the things about being on medication & in therapy is that is keeps me well.
Strange as it sounds, I miss the thrill of #hypomania.
The creativity, excitement, omnipotentence & speed.
I could take on anything. No boundaries.

Worry increases suffering
But it also signals that
-you still care
-you believe there’s a future worth fighting for
-you’re uncertain, which leaves room for hope
Despair is the complete loss of hope—suffering without meaning
So worry for a time if you must.
But do not despair!
Never thought I’d write in defense of worry (!) but this particular moment in time calls more for kind and non-judgmental acceptance of what you’re experiencing before you fire up the old resilience cannon to demolish all those “negative” thoughts and feelings!
#selfcompassion
The sheer number of things to be reasonably concerned (or very worried) about is higher than it has been in decades!
#radicalacceptance
While worrying is not productive, cut yourself some slack if you are worried. Just don’t worry alone.
