Had the privilege to drop off a copy of Happy City for Mayor @KennyAlexander This books is an excellent primer for anyone interested creating a better urban environment. Having a mayor who enjoys bike riding as well as reading is always a plus! @HappyCitiesTeam @NorfolkVA

Health Dept: "Bicycling will reduce the top 10 causes of death. People will live longer if they're able to use a bike to get around." Planning Dept: "What does that have to do with us?"

(🧵) ELECTION THREAD: I’ve been waiting all night to say anything substantive about what’s happened, as I felt—I still do—that I might say something I’d regret. I hope you’ll consider following along as I try to process this with you all, and try to do it responsibly. Please RT.

Tell us again how the actions that would allow us to avoid the #ClimateCrisis were “too expensive.” None of the record-breaking, historic or “100 year” events we’ve been seeing a lot of lately are the “new normal.” Because it’s actually going to keep getting exponentially worse.

Voila! Le “hell” de Paris sans cars. Norfolk can do the same with some creativity.
I ❤️ (car-free) #Paris! Starting Nov. 4, 2024, the 5.5 km2 heart of Paris will be closed to through traffic. (Buses, taxis, ambulances, residents' cars will still have access.) Opponents claim it will make life hell. Here's what hell looks like, according to them:

No reason a city like Norfolk with 238,000 can’t do the all this and more.
Brandenburg an der Havel, a German town of 74,000 people, has a more impressive streetcar network than 99% of American cities. 🚃

“She said there’s usually a serious crash there with injuries about every six to eight weeks.” This tells me that it’s poor road design and the @NCDOT is responsible for such frequent crashes due to their dangerous road design.
UPDATE: A auto-pedestrian crash that killed a man and his two dogs on Highway 158 in Kitty Hawk Wednesday night has stunned people, and has its police chief calling it the worst event he's had to deal with. trib.al/2ZZwlrm

The reason ⁦@NorfolkVA⁩ is not on this list is because we chose not to. Norfolk lacks the will and is falling behind other cities because of these choices. Norfolk’s population will continue to decline because of this. momentummag.com/top-bicycle-…

Just a couple of e-bike ambulances in Soho early this morning. Someone will be along soon to comment on the impracticality of carrying patients, to which I will reply: First responders and the golden hour in a city full of traffic
