A large part of my role @MaterializeInc is building a real-time data warehouse *without* the typical complexities of streaming.
I'm excited to share how easy it is at #datacouncil24 with a talk titled "Real-Time Analytics for Small Data Teams".

I’ll never get over how cool WITH MUTUALLY RECURSIVE is.
For many years I thought recursion in SQL was hard. Weirdly hard. Turns out the problem was actually that normal WITH RECURSIVE has sorta bonkers semantics. WITH MUTUALLY RECURSIVE fixes all that.

"S3 economics" was one of the founding principles of @MaterializeInc: xitter.gq/narayanarjun/status/11…
We don't talk about it much—it's an implementation detail!—but it's part of what makes Materialize fundamentally viable. Cool to see how sharply the whole industry has turned in this direction.
S3 is increasingly becoming the default storage layer for cloud infrastructure. I wrote notes on this trend, its benefits, its challenges, its early adopters, and the opportunity it presents for new startups to disrupt large infrastructure categories

For operational work, the importance of freshness is much more than "SQL go fast". It's about autonomy, where the database is acting on your behalf, even when you're asleep!
