Relining of the final segment of the 6-mile-long rehabilitation of the 15 Mile Road Interceptor – part of the #infrastucture carrying sanitary sewage from about 500k people from many of Macomb County’s communities – has been completed ahead of schedule. @APWAMichigan @APWATWEETS
Rehabbing the approximately 1 ½-mile-long section of the Interceptor from Gratiot Ave. to just west of Groesbeck Hwy. in Clinton Township was critical because of severe degradation of the steel-reinforced concrete pipe caused by corrosive sewer gas.
Removal of #algae muck from 3 locations along the Lake St. Clair shore in Macomb County as part of a pilot project is expected to start in mid- to late-November. The purpose of the 3-year field trial is to learn more about how to manage it long-term.

With some additional work this past spring and summer in the Sutherland-Oemig Drain, the likelihood of flooding that was common over a section of 23 Mile Rd. in Chesterfield Twp. during significant rainstorms has been greatly reduced.
At first glance, what appears to be a new, landscaped, 2-story brick house at the corner of Sorrento Blvd. and Dodge Park Rd. in @SterlingHeights, is eliminating sewer odor in the neighborhood and reducing the likelihood of an #infrastructure collapse. bit.ly/4jbExU3
At the annual State of Harrison Township Address, Commissioner Miller provided an overview of department projects including tremendous progress in greatly reducing combined sewer overflows into Lake St. Clair and the removal of hundreds of tons of logs from the Clinton River.
People sometimes wonder if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If a tree falls & blocks the flow of #stormwater in an open drain – regardless of whether anyone hears anything -- it can lead to #flooding and erosion of drain banks.
At the Mount Clemens State of the City Address, it was great to hear Mayor Laura Kropp point out that the city continues to make improvements in infrastructure with plans for more investment. The annual event was held at Emerald Theatre and was hosted by Connect Macomb.
Great to see @sterlingheights @MayorMikeTaylor note Sterling Relief Drain green infrastructure & new non-motorized trail project among highlights, during State of the City address. Excellent project & partnership! #infrastructure #stormwater #sterlingheights
What a wonderful turnout for the 35th annual Senior Fun Festival on Thursday! Many thanks to the many senior citizens who stopped by the Macomb County Public Works booth. #seniorcitizens @makemacomb
MCPWO & @MacombRoads worked together to greatly reduce the duration of temporary lane closures in sections of a 6-mile stretch of Garfield Road as part of a sewer inspection program deep beneath the road.
We’re happy that none of the estimated 100 gallons of crude oil that surfaced Friday morning near Mound Rd. & 18 Mile in Sterling Heights reached the Plumbrook Drain. The oil leaked from a 16-inch-diameter pipeline that carries crude oil through the city.
Our office takes stormwater management seriously, especially in a changing #climate. We are a recognized leader in implementing stricter design standards for new developments, to better protect residents & businesses during major rainstorms.

The standards were implemented to convey & store stormwater runoff at controlled rates to reduce the likelihood & severity of #flooding and other impacts such as excessive soil saturation, #erosion, crop damage and degradation in water quality and wildlife habitat. @APWAMichigan
Construction of a box culvert over the Gloede Drain has been completed as part of the development of property for a future @sheetz gas station and a car wash at M-59 & Garfield Rd. in Macomb Township.
Local municipalities have jurisdiction over property zoning and site plans. Macomb County Public Works is responsible for reviewing those plans to ensure proper #stormwater management practices are completed to protect water quality and mitigate potential #flooding.
