The kung-fu and ninja craze of the 70's to 80's are a strong creative influence of mine, despite being late millennial. Got into that media on the internet by older mutuals. There was something high energy about them that attracted me.

This video that highlights Don't Nod as a case study reveals an interesting observation about modern mass media. Namely, how a new left wing patron class are attempting to carve an alternative "high culture" from it. @BrianNiemeier @wastelandJD youtu.be/pDEw10yCzmY

Seeing the average person's reaction to animation prices explains a lot about why the industry's been struggling. Disinterested parties (including animation producers) think that if 1 second of movement costs $300, then 10 minutes must cost $150,000. Next time you see a 2D show, look closely. Most shows are only moving for a fraction of the runtime. We have people who don't know anything about directing and budgeting an animation taking control of productions, and being shocked when they learn how much it costs. They don't dig any any deeper to learn the countless ways people have been doing this medium affordably for decades, and they don't want to know

The complainers are followers of a neurotic leftist ethos that manages to be worse than puritanism. One that needs to subvert natural eros and beauty to accommodate their overbearing modern pieties about feminism and sexual identity. I wish I was just being hyperbolic.
Gameoverse and Stellar Blade are examples of even when the sexualized characters are adults people will still complain

That's what Plato warned democracy tends to collapse into, except it won't be never-ending but rather climaxes in tyranny when a sufficiently ruthless demagogue and his following take advantage of the chaos.
Could be that American politics for the rest of our lives will be parties switching power, engaging in ever more flagrant corruption and grifting, then prosecuting the other side for crimes and non-crimes, in just a never ending cycle - all while the intelligent people we want to steer politics are so bored with the Jerry Springer quality of things that they just check out.

Chesterton's Fence remains undefeated. From a secular point of view, marriage is never going to "make sense." This is why, as we become more secular, marriage--and thus, love--becomes more and more expendable. We've removed the cultural foundations that reveal the importance of lifelong commitment, self-sacrifice, honor, and the nature of true love itself. It's no wonder that we're the loneliest culture in history. We use the same word ("love") for things like bacon and Marvel films that we use to describe the nature of God and our commitment to our spouse, remove the traditional structure that was the differentiator, and then act surprised that no one knows what love is anymore. And most are too asleep to ever realize that the most beautiful relationship one can have is being lambasted (by the world's worst people) into oblivion. I have conversations with young Christian men all the time who desperately want to get married. To them, it feels impossible to find a young woman who feels the same. And these are good men. Movies like "Wicker" are literally satanic for that reason. It seems like an entire generation of young women's minds have been captured by an ideology that actively seeks to destroy them. Burn it with fire.
“Wicker” shows just how suffocating marriage can be—and asks whether the institution is simply incompatible with love, @fhill_official writes: theatlantic.com/culture/2026…

Broadly speaking, religion regards metaphysical truths and matters that have wide significance. The problem is people make the same teleological mistakes about both science and religion, and end up turning the former into a millenarian cargo cult for ideology and utopic beliefs.

I probably should have said ontological instead of teleological. Regardless, while Japanese cultural attitudes about religion are more abstract than in the west, the same secular presumptions and their errors occur. More philosophical nuance and less reductionism will fix that.

The correct framing is that burgeoning male writers are not receiving investment - particularly in the literary genre. It is not suppression. It is neglect. Male writers just go Indy. The complaints that 'men don't read' by the Lithub Handwringers, should be understood to actually mean, 'men don't read contemporary authors we think they should read.' Solving the impasse without changing the investment structure would require a concerted effort of male writers to embrace the monoculture and become self-hating woke stenographers, or for men to stop rereading classics and put down the video games and read books that were not written for them, by them, or about them.
"Today, the Big Five publishers are staffed almost entirely by women. According to the most recent data, more than 70 percent of staffers are women. More than 70 percent of editors are women. Even 70 percent of all interns are women. At the executive level, more than 60 percent of leaders are women. In 2026, American publishing looks like lululemon."

One failure of the industrial revolution is that wives don't see their husbands work. She sees him trying to relax afterward, compares it to her day, and thinks she works harder. Overcoming this requires a faith in men that feminist society constantly undermines.

It's so funny when a mainstream project flops in the public eye and some unfortunate art history/comms major intern has to go on twitter and defend their institution with "it can't be bad, it's a *reference* to art we decided is good!" followed by scoldy academese
