Arguably the worst human trait is the urge to build totalizing, technocratic systems sold under the guise of "intelligence".... when the true motivations behind them are fear, ass-covering, and the desire to outsource accountability. It's this crazy subconscious magic trick where "cowardice" gets transmuted into "being smart". The parallels to what's happening in tech right now are obvious, but I actually had this thought while watching postseason baseball recently. And specifically how teams treat their pitching staffs in October. You can tell which managers are handcuffed, in whole or in part, by the modern iPad analytics mindset..... versus the old school ball-knowers who understand that playoff baseball is NOT regular season baseball.
