the ao3 reposting discourse is whatever atp and if you’re arguing that there’s credit, ao3 has a dl button, it’s a compliment, etc, i get it, but the fact that now i’m seeing so many people straight up say “you posted your work on the internet so its no longer yours <3” is INSANE

need to reiterate sooo bad that downloading fics is NOT the problem - it's great! the issue is reuploading people's work to public sites. if ao3 was still up and someone took your fic and reposted the entire thing under their username, you absolutely would not be happy about it.
I DON'T consent to my fics being uploaded onto websites. I know they already have w/o permission&I don't feel comfortable with it.
I know people will share fics with friends or privately, but I ask for you to please remove my fics from Google Drives.

Imo the discussion on sharing fics comes down to: we consent to people downloading them because we are aware AO3 has that feature, but not random people putting them in mass public folders for download without our knowledge of who and where and what is being done with them

Pls try your best to find the authors of fics you read while we’re surviving on pdf of fics. Writers are already sad when they publish on ao3 and receive little feedback. Now their fics are shared around completely untethered to
