On a still morning, sitting by the froth of Burbage Brook as it tumbles through Padley Gorge, you can't help feeling that you've somehow fallen into a different world ... perhaps when you tripped over that tree root. Here, there's no haste or pressure, no noise but the constant rush and bubble of water and the occasional fall of a leaf. I find that I always stay long, long after I've taken the shot, losing track of time, just watching and listening and breathing it all in, so grateful for such places and the chance to fall into them.
This is the view that will be bringing autumn peace to your wall throughout November if you managed to snap up one of my 2026 Peak District Calendars. My 2027 Calendar is still available but I'm now running low on stock - so if you would like one for only £10.95 + UK P&P please see the link in the comments below or in my bio. Thank you.

Well, that’s a wrap - the last passenger train of the season chuffing past the house and the weather couldn’t be more perfect for it. This will be my 17th winter here and I don’t think it will ever lose its appeal.

If working with sick dogs has taught me anything in life it is that we should all try and live in the moment and do more of what we enjoy.
When I was in ICU battling for my life after depression and addiction I told myself if I got another chance I wouldn’t ever be afraid of failure ever again and I’d forget about possessions and the traditional things the world tells us we need to have or do in order to be happy.
All I could think of was either teaching sport to kids or spending time with dogs. I had no idea that change in outlook would lead me to being with dogs in the way I am now and having such a mission.
Its really hard being caught up in the rat race of life with bills, traffic, health issues, social expectations, stress, anxiety, addiction, missed opportunities, lack of options and every other thing that life throws at us all. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do. The only small bit of advice I can give is to try and do more of what you love as soon as you can. It could be learning photography, traveling to a new country, getting a dog, opening a cafe or playing sports you loved when younger. Just try and be kind to yourself and do more of what you love.
Big love ❤️

Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.
A training exercise by @DerbyshireFRS whilst we were in the cable car going up to @Hts_of_Abraham
I’ve often been accused of talking too much…here’s proof of that accusation! 😄 / @Hts_of_Abraham

Patrick was one of those icons who we somehow all took for granted would always be with us.
I grew up as a fan, and was later gifted the privilege of becoming a colleague and friend, working with him for many years on “American Dad!”, “Family Guy”, and “Ted”. He was that rare actor who could take any bit of dialogue and elevate it, making a good writer sound great, and a great writer sound masterful. He was also as humble as they come. I remember exchanging emails with him a number of years ago when he was beginning day 1 of a new film. He commented to me that he always walked onto a new set feeling like the biggest novice there. My stunned reaction was the same as anyone’s would be. I said, “Patrick, if you feel that way, the rest of us are screwed.” We have lost a legendary actor today, and for many of us, a good friend. He will be deeply missed by the entire planet.

What a man. I bought a house in LA in 2020 that had been Patrick Stewart’s just before. He turned up one day to check for mail (there was some) and showed us around our own house.
“This is the best place to sit in the morning. You want to sit in this bit of the garden at 5 pm?”
We spoke about Star Trek, which he called “TNG.” I didn’t mention I’d been obsessed with it as a teen, but a frisson of excitement vibrated through me.
I didn’t like him because he did that (although I did). I liked him because he was Patrick Stewart and Jean-Luc Picard. What a man.

My bipeds tell me this is probably my last week of work for this year. So I have been enjoying the lovely sunshine while I can.

Every single year, autumn takes my breath away. I always write it off as the harbinger of the dark days of winter and forget just how perfect it is, with its gentle, unassuming beauty. Walking on this quiet path, all around me was the drip of mist from the leaves, a soft light that fell so slowly, and gold, gold, gold, everywhere I looked.

f my wife, daughter or mum needed CPR, I’d want someone to act without worrying about touching her chest. I’m proud to highlight St John Ambulance’s CPR Bra campaign in this week’s Mail Good Health: “It’s OK to save my life.”

⚠️ This 508t vehicle is entering Cheshire after passing through Talke/Newcastle. Police are holding traffic as it approaches Congleton on the A34.
The 5.8m wide load is travelling from Stafford to Ellesmere Port over the weekend. It is being escorted by police and is moving slowly. Expect delays.
The 96m long vehicle has come from GE Vernova's factory in Stafford, transporting a Supergrid Transformer within a girder frame trailer. It has mant axles to evenly distribute the weight.
Today's route (Staffs):
• Ranshaw Dr to Riverway by Hough Retail Park
• A34 via Lichfield Rd & Queensway passed Stafford centre
• A518 via Lammascote Rd, Weston Rd & Beaconside
• A34 north via Stone Rd
• A34 contraflow passed Stone
• Back onto A34 north at Darlaston
• Continues on A34 via Trentham & Hanford
• A527 & A52 contraflow around Newcastle-under-Lyme centre (via 'Fountains Roundabout')
• Back onto A34 via Lower Street & Liverpool Rd
• A34 from Newcastle Rd onto Congleton Rd at Talke (via 'Box Crossroads')
• A34 into Padgbury Ln & Box Ln in Congleton, Cheshire
• It will stop for the night in the A54 area
Will post tomorrow's route later.
The above info is based on previous moves by Collett from Stafford to Ellesmere Port. The order typically covers Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
The gross vehicle weight is 508 tonnes. It is 96 metres long and 5.8 metres wide. Due to these oversized dimensions it must take a complex route that includes occupying the opposite side of the carriageway.
