Why is the SC/ST Act called the Modi Act? | Rowlatt Act and Modi Act Comparison
You must have read about the infamous Rowlatt Act during your school days. But do you know why it was named after a person, specifically Justice Sidney Rowlatt?
The British govt enacted the draconian Defence of India Act during World War I.
And, Justice Rowlatt recommended extending the draconian provisions of the previous act beyond the war and, in fact, making them more draconian.
The resulting law was officially called the Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act of 1919, but it became popularly known as the Rowlatt Act.
Now, compare this to the SC/ST Atrocities Act of 1989, popularly known as the Modi Act.
While the original law, enacted by the Rajiv Gandhi Govt, had been in place since 1989, the Modi government passed amendments in 2015 & 2018 to strengthen its provisions and make it more draconian.
If the 1919 Act can be called the Rowlatt Act, why not call the SC ST Act the Modi Act?

According to Ashok ji, Modi ji cannot repeal the SC/ST Act (although we are demanding reforms, not its repeal) because we do not have a good and cooperative opposition.

Many BJP supporters say that though BJP may be pursuing dirty caste politics, they are working for the larger Hindu welfare.
It is far from truth.
Let's look at this.
There was a news that Amit Shah chaired a meeting on Demographic changes in India. BJP Hindu supporters applauded that he is going to do something to check muslim and christian growth by going after conversion, illegal immigration etc.
But in May 2024 (in the midst of Lok Sabha elections), a report titled "Share of Religious Minorities" was published by none other than Economic Advisory Council to the PM. It can be accessed at- eacpm.gov.in/wp-content/uplo…
This report says they will not even look into why minority population is growing in India?
𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗱, 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁.
The report also glorifies that India has legal quotas (𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘀), minority rights etc. The report overall 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 which is a great thing.
PM's office report says that conversion is not due to 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗱, 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, but due to progressive policies.
This is where the genius of BJP comes.
Amit Shah's statement is understood by BJP supporters that they are going to go after conversion while PM's report glorify the growth of minorities (that too in the middle of 2024 elections).
To BJP supporters-
Never go by the party's public statements. Please study the policies, court affidavits and departmental reports of BJP government.
You will see 3M (Marxist-Missionary-Muslim) government in full action.
