I've launched my Swift blog 📖!
I'll be exploring topics less discussed in the Swift community, with the modest goal of 1 article per month.
The first article: swiftology.io/articles/struc…
Check it out and let me know what you think!
And if you like it, subscribe to RSS 📡
Cheers!

After 9/11 a theory spread through the conspiracy community which claimed Jews were ordered to stay home from the twin towers as Israel was involved in what they considered an 'inside job'.
It is still readily believed all over the world today.
So begins it's new incaranation.

You are about to withstand a barrage of lies about the war that broke out today in Israel.
Some of those lies will be explicit. Some of them will be lies of omission. Others will be lies of obfuscation. Or lies of minimization. Lies told by people who are simply too afraid to look at such a barbarous reality. And lies told by people whose true beliefs are too ugly to quite say aloud. Turn on cable news and you can hear some of them right now.
So let’s get some facts straight.

Organizations have long yearned for more from Xcode's build system. They needed solutions for dependency management and build-time optimizations, but Apple remained unresponsive. As a result, tools like @cocoapods, @tuistio , and @bazelbuild had to rely on the foundation of #Xcode projects.
Unfortunately, with the Swift Package Manager (SPM), these problems not only persist but worsen:
1️⃣ Developers lack control over dependency resolution at launch time, leaving them helpless if things go wrong or slow down. Most dependencies no longer support CocoaPods, forcing reliance on pre-compiled binaries.
2️⃣ New build-time features are tied to SPM, neglecting their integration into Xcode projects. This seems like an attempt to push developers towards SPM adoption.
3️⃣ Xcode's launch experience starts to resemble Android Studio, dynamically resolving elements such as dependencies. However, unlike Android Studio's flexibility and optimization potential, Xcode remains hermetic with limited room for improvement.
4️⃣The ecosystems built around tools like @reactnative heavily rely on CocoaPods and, by extension, Xcode projects. Discouraging project usage directly impacts these ecosystems.
We'd love to see Apple reconsider its approach and allow extensibility and replacement options within its build system.

Xcode projects are our public APIs to optimize projects and build times. Swift Packages are the new internal API that doesn’t leave room for optimisation.

My new personal web perf minimum "is it faster than an Apple watch". Note that this is a series 5; newer watches are 20% faster so around ~20. On the right is a Samsung S95B OLED "smart TV". Also, you'd be surprised how many Android devices can't clear the very very low bar of 20
