They’re already spending them. NYC spends upwards of $3 billion a year on shelters. It’s good we put money towards homelessness, it’s bad we spend it on miserable temporary beds and not on homes.

I just need to reiterate, because it is perpetually shocking: the “non-profits” that run shelters get $3500 minimum per bed per month. For a cot in a crowded room. A family shelter room can be $7000 or more a month. Billions of dollars are spent yearly to keep people homeless.
