Read our Situational Assessment on the Iranian missile attack on Israel and its implications:👇 On the evening of October 1, 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched 181 ballistic missiles from Iranian territory towards Israel in an offensive lasting approximately one hour. The missile barrage affected regions across Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and were intercepted with David’s Sling and Arrow 2/Arrow 3 air defense systems. Additionally, #US Navy destroyers stationed in the eastern Mediterranean successfully intercepted some of the Iranian missiles. The #Israel Defense Forces (#IDF) have announced that Israel will retaliate at an unknown time. Israel is expected to conduct these retaliatory strikes on a larger scale than in April 2024, when #Iran fired some 300 missiles and drones at Israel. Possible targets include key IRGC sites, missile production facilities, oil refineries, and potentially Iran’s nuclear infrastructure or government bunkers and targeted assassinations of Iranian senior officials. The extent of US involvement in the coming retaliation remains unclear; however, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan indicated during a press briefing that the US would engage in some form of counteraction. The #IRGC and affiliated Iraqi militias yesterday warned of potential attacks on American bases should the US intervene.
