Not really on here any more, for reasons that hardly need explaining. I can be found over there – though I've not got round to saying much because platforms, urgh!
(Still reachable by messages on either, FWIW).

A sonnet for the Feast of the Presentation, celebrated 40 days after Christmas. #Candlemas
I can't even with this relentless numbers game among Christian organisations. The cultural captivity of it. And it's not like the "econometrics mindset" is producing "results" outside the church. Unless you count, I dunno, the collapse of the NHS as a "result."
I don’t want to be cool, I don’t want to fit in, I just want my jeans to come down to my shoes and stop short of my armpits, these young-people brands have no pity.

What could possibly be motivating such anti-climate narratives? 🤔🤔🤔🤷♂️
The other place got me to pick from all of ~4 types of thing it's possible to like & I said "books" so now my feed is full of indistinguishable posts about libraries which is not enthusing me for the glum, socially awkward process of starting again. (But, I mean, this place 😬).

Attention will now move to the Archbishop's successor. But the Makin review - *five years* in the making, and drawing on interviews with survivors that must have come at enormous personal cost - really demands careful study. It shouldn't fall to survivors to do that.
My PhD research has taken me into the realms of "positive thinking" ideology, of which this is an intringuingly overt instance.
We can't afford to equate hope with optimism. Misplaced optimism can't create hope, and it can do all sorts to actively damage it.

Talking about changing his mind on LGBTQ+ inclusion after meeting queer Christians and studying the Bible alongside affirming scholars, Dr. Richard Hays just said, “that led me to repentance.”
What a humble, contrite, and powerful talk in a room filled with LGBTQ+ folks.

Just informed Mr. W that I want to do a PhD on neocharismatic book endorsements and he is taking the uncharacteristically unsupportive position that "this might have to be it for PhDs for a while."
There's few expressions I dislike more than "the academy." I feel like only people in "the academy" use it, and we use it to signal that we're in "the academy."
("Academe" though [*shudder*]. "Academe" is one of those few).

What I have heard over and over is that these younger, former evangelicals cannot believe more evangelical leaders have refused to speak up and speak out and speak against the rise of Christian nationalism and white supremacy as the silent, but real, feature on the GOP platform.
If you're writing a book with all of about 3 women in it, maybe at least show them the courtesy of extending the same respectfully formal surnaming convention that you consistently use for the manfolk 🙃
So grateful for @kkdumez’s work and the courageous truth-speaking of all the women in this documentary. As @R_Denhollander puts it, “It costs you something to side with the vulnerable [...] It costs you nothing to side with the one who's in power.”

The relentlessness with which the most powerful Christians in the country continue to troll abuse survivors and their advocates. Astonishing.
And yes, I'm once again talking about Nicky Gumbel's twitter feed. But really, you can take your pick.
There's a reason why I clicked on a Christian fundamentalist article about how Bluey is an affront to Christian fundamentalist family values and that reason is that I apparently do not think I am sad or angry enough already today.
(I didn't say it was a good reason.)
