Just a reminder as we go back, that if you're in Y6, I've got a whole folder of whole class reading lessons you can have for free. Some is entire books like Holes, some is linked to science and geography and history etc. Will also add more this year.

Either @Keir_Starmer or @RishiSunak will be our Prime Minister in a few weeks and it's absolutely terrifying. Their half-hearted and non-committal responses to yesterday's slaughter in Rafah were pitiful.

ALL EYES ON RAFAH.
The Israeli military has just carried out a massacre in Rafah. They bombed displaced families huddled in tents, killing over 35 people with more trapped in the flaming debris. The death toll is still rising.
We will never forget the images emerging from Rafah tonight. Human beings, including babies, were burned alive and torn apart. This genocide must end, it must end now.

Maybe, instead of National Service for 18 year olds they should introduce national service for MPs.
They all have to do several weeks volunteering in a school, GP, hospital, care home, social care and police within their first 12 months in office.

“My family and I do not know where we are going. The bombing does not stop and there is no safe place here.”
Children and families in Gaza have been displaced multiple times. Nowhere is safe.
An immediate ceasefire is needed.

My latest RfP article for @NEUnion Educate magazine is about why authentic representation in children's books matters so much. It draws heavily on the pioneering work of Rudine Sims Bishop, who explains it far better than I ever could. Hopefully, it's a useful read.

31 years ago today, Black teenager Stephen Lawrence, 18, was murdered in a racist attack in South-East London. He was killed on the streets of Britain for being Black.
This poem by Josephine Corcoran impacted me since I first read it.

Please don't leave class storytime to videos and audiobooks. My pupils evolve after every book we share together. Relationships changed, ideas put forward, friendships built, opinions challenged, empathy developed, discussions had. It builds a class like nothing else.

Me: "I resign because I am responsible for that attack. I'm the one who botched security at the border. I'm the one who propped up Hamas."

Ofsted has started talking about 'quality' books for children. This is a throwback to when Kenneth Baker tried to impose a canon of 'good books' on schools, but many of those of us who were on it, refused to be on it. That was the end of that.

I love this story.
For generations, Mohammed's family has owned a piece of land in Karachi, where the local Jewish community buried their dead. The graveyard is all but forgotten, but Mohammed continues to safeguard it.
