Here's the big picture: Uganda is pulling its troops out of Somalia, and Ethiopia will be next. Ethiopia's plan is to leave Baidoa and South West State in the hands of the Laftagareen Militias, Al-Shabaab, or some combination of the two. Once the Ugandans are gone, Ethiopian forces will follow, withdrawing from South West, Hiiraan and wherever else they're deployed. Kenya is a different story. Its troops aren't going anywhere, because they're there to protect Jubaland, an administration allied with both Kenya and the UAE and sitting right on the Kenyan border. Nairobi might trim its troop numbers to put political pressure on the Federal Government, but Kenya and Ethiopia will both keep a foothold in Somalia, especially in border areas like Gedo. Fixing all of this is in the hands of the Somali people. If you stand united and act as one for your country, the UAE will keep throwing its billions away. But if you let your political feuds keep dividing you, you will end up as the plaything of a country like the UAE, which doesn’t even have a real society of its own.

Ryan Bridge who is linked to the far right English Defence League (EDL) has been deported from Somalia after violating his visit visa conditions. He recorded inside a government institution without permission, leading to his phone being confiscated & his deportation to the UK. The EDL founder @TRobinsonNewEra has faced multiple criminal convictions, including contempt of court. Somalia has every right to enforce its immigration laws and protect its citizens from far right criminals from UK.

Ryan Bridge is incredibly thick. He thinks Boko Haram, which is based in Nigeria, is an internal Somali militia opposing the government. He said he’ll only post this until he’s back, which suggests he’s now left Somalia.

Thank you, @UNTMIS_, for your invaluable contribution to Somalia’s peacebuilding and state-building journey. As this chapter closes, a new one begins, built on national ownership and continued partnership.
Somalia turns a page as UN political mission concludes after two decades of partnership Mogadishu, 31 October 2026 – The two-year transition of the United Nations political mission in Somalia was completed today, in line with the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, bringing to a close more than three decades of United Nations’ sustained engagement supporting peacebuilding, state-building, governance and reconciliation in the country. The closure of the UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) represents the final chapter in a continuum of political support that began with the UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) in 1995, continued through the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) from 2013, and entered its final transition phase as UNTMIS in 2024. Under the two-year roadmap for the transition, agreed between Somalia and the United Nations, UNTMIS responsibilities were progressively transferred to Somali institutions, UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes, and the United Nations Support Office for Somalia (UNSOS). “Today is not an end to the partnership between the United Nations and Somalia—rather, it marks the conclusion of one chapter and the beginning of another,” said UNTMIS’ Officer-in-Charge, the UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Raisedon Zenenga. 4/ Tensions between the FGS and local factions in central and south-central Somalia have provided openings for al Shabaab to exploit, including by potentially coordinating with opposition forces. Al Shabaab has taken advantage of fighting between South West state opposition forces and federal and state forces following the FGS’s takeover of the state government in March 2026 by increasing its average monthly attacks in the state by approximately 25 percent. Al Shabaab is also almost certainly deconflicting and possibly coordinating with opposition forces in the state, as opposition forces have moved freely through al Shabaab support zones to capture towns where al Shabaab has applied long-term pressure, including Buurhakaba. FGS and South West state government officials have repeatedly accused opposition forces of fighting alongside al Shabaab since August, which South West opposition officials have denied.

3/ The FGS has sought to downplay the ambush, although the activity of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud indicate that the attack has alarmed the FGS. The Somali Ministry of Defense released a statement on October 27 not acknowledging any losses and instead claiming that federal forces had killed nearly 75 al Shabaab militants and wounded another 56. Mohamud’s cabinet reportedly held an emergency meeting on October 27, however, and the Somali Stream news outlet reported that Mohamud canceled his planned trip to the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow from October 28 to October 29.

Yesterday, Gen. Galaal took a considerable risk by stepping forward as a whistleblower, warning the Somali people of what he described as an existential threat: a long-term project aimed not merely at weakening Somalia, but at its eventual dismantling & takeover through a “counterterrorism” buffer zone instalment plan. The most disturbing aspect of his warning is not the existence of foreign plots. Nations have always faced adversaries. What is far more unsettling is the suggestion that elements of Somalia's leadership were aware of these designs and failed to mount any meaningful effort to counter them. It is worth recalling that during the previous administration, the opposition relentlessly accused the government of overseeing Al-Shabaab's expansion while offering little resistance as the group entrenched itself across the country & edged ever closer to swallowing the capital. The term “Labaadi Shabaab” did not emerge from nowhere. It was born from a widespread perception that the Fahad-Farmaajo era presided over the strengthening of the very threat it claimed to be fighting. Equally striking is how dramatically the political landscape appears to have shifted. As the current administration intensifies military pressure on Al-Shabaab and the group's territorial grip comes under sustained assault, suspicion & accusations no longer flow toward those in government. Instead, they have increasingly gravitate toward elements of the standing opposition. History has a habit of exposing the hidden truth. What we have seen play out for decades is that Somalia's dysfunction has been explained through the language of insecurity. Al-Shabaab became both the symptom & the excuse; the perpetual justification for stalled institutions, deferred accountability, & unfulfilled promises. But what happens when that excuse begins to disappear? If Al-Shabaab's defeat is finally becoming conceivable, then Somalia is approaching a moment of profound clarity. We may soon learn who was fighting an insurgency, & who was merely riding it. The loudest voices in politics are often revealed not by the crisis they condemn, but by the peace they pursue with actionable effort. Some careers are built on solving crises. Others are built on ensuring the crisis never truly ends. “If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do no harm.” ~ African proverb Kula-jire, kaa-jire haddii uu kaa shaqeeysto sheeko fudud ma aha. 💡🧠

What even is SOG? @CTP_Kenya is not an official Kenyan government account, yet it is publicly targeting two Somali journalists without providing evidence or an official source. Instead of going after independent journalists who oppose terrorists, focus on the real threats. Kenya is already hosting some of the biggest Khawaarij figures destabilising Somalia. If Kenya wants to tackle terrorism, it should start with those operating within its own borders.

To whoever runs @CTP_Kenya You published photos of two Somali journalists, Ahmed Said and Macruuf, under a "Special Operations Group alert," with no names, no evidence and no official source. Your account is not a government channel. Your "verification" is a paid subscription. Your website doesn't even load. Posts like this put journalists' lives at risk. Delete it and publicly apologise. Every hour it stays up, you are responsible for the harassment that follows. For anyone who wants clarity, the video below shows why this is not an official government page, and how a poorly run account misled 84,000 viewers. To everyone reading: don't share accusations without evidence. Don't amplify hate. Report the post to X. Journalism is not terrorism. @AhmedNa88999 @aliade34120 @AliA68068 @Ramadan70530344 @wardisom4 @QaranimoHamza @issebyusuf @Feysalvip @sudanii123451 @barre252 @Osman_estate @HGantaaal

These are Somali journalists with substantial public profiles and large followings. Establishing their identities and obtaining reliable, conclusive information about them should have been relatively straightforward through basic verification. It is very concerning that their photos are publicly posted without providing any context or clarification.
