The Conflict, Transitional Justice and Governance (CTJ&G) Programme of @refugeelawproj facilitated a cross-border community dialogue between the communities living and bordering Uganda and South Sudan.
This engagement, hosted in a border village known as Lagaya, Palabek Nyimur Sub-County in Lamwo district, brought together religious and cultural leaders, local government representatives, women and youth representatives focusing on deliberations that contributed towards building trust, identifying shared challenges, and uncovering collaborative solutions.
Notwithstanding the historical friction between the border communities, the participants indicated that there exist substantial opportunities such as cultural identities, cross border peace prayers, joint economic incentives like establishments of border markets, and using the religious and cultural institutions to cultivate peaceful co-existence between South Sudanese and the communities in Uganda. #peacebuilding #socialcohesion #refugees #coexistence
