The Waste and Environment Management Association of Kenya (WEMAK) has strongly opposed a directive by NEMA mandating the use of biodegradable garbage bags, labelling it a costly and ineffective solution.
According to WEMAK, these bags priced at Ksh 80 each compared to Ksh 18 for standard bags are impractical and fail to decompose outside laboratory conditions.
They argue that the rushed implementation lacks stakeholder consultation, risks economic strain on consumers, and threatens job losses in the waste sector.
NEMA recently directed the use of biodegradable garbage bags for organic waste collection across the country, citing environmental sustainability goals under the Sustainable Waste Management Act of 2022.

This is a good observation Kevin.
I think the profile of the roof is problematic for the following reasons:
1. It mimics the Roman concrete tiles which don’t require nailing. There can be never be translation of 100% to capture all the advantages of a Roman tile.
2. High pitched roofs in windy areas can create backflow. The tile has no mechanism to stop this
3. As the fundi works on it, any dent on the Mabati creates folds and air gaps that are hard to fix.
4. Unlike other better roof products, as you rightly put it, there is no provision for nailing.
5. The roof requires specialized training.
