Today is #ZeroTolerance to #FGM. In an era where world leaders openly show how little women and girls matter, the work continues anyway. Through The Five Foundation, African women are leading, protecting girls, and driving change because we fund women, not silence. Progress exists because we refused to stop. And we won’t.

Yesterday marked International Human Rights Day. #Somaliland has made great progress in guaranteeing equal rights for all citizens - but more work lies ahead, especially on gender equality and freedom of expression. A future where every voice is heard and every right respected!

At the AU Fourth African Girls Summit in Addis Ababa, TGG–ALM, alongside @OrchidProject , @ActionAid_Kenya & @Global4Children, hosted a side event: “Practical Ways of Shifting Tradition and Culture to Eliminate Harmful Practices.” Voices from across Africa shared what it really takes to protect girls from FGM: 💬 “A 10-year-old who is cut is considered more of a woman than a 40-year-old uncut.” — Chief Mambu Mansaray 💬 “FGM is torture. No matter how you frame it.” — Hannah Yambasu 💬 “Are we choosing tradition over girls’ lives?” — Ministry of Gender, Sierra Leone The lesson: real change happens when girls lead, communities engage, and survivors guide the path forward. #AGS2025 #EndFGM #AfricaLed #SurvivorLeadership #ShiftingNorms #GirlsRights #16DaysOfActivism #TheGirlGen

At the XIV International Conference on FGM in Madrid, experts explored how feminist & intercultural approaches can strengthen psychological support for women & girls affected by FGM. @LeylaHussein reminded the room: “Language matters: we should not fear saying it. Female genital mutilation is gender-based violence.” She added: “Violence against women is structural. The female body is under constant attack and, for Black women, their basic needs are not even in the debate.” Panelists also highlighted gaps in public services, the crucial role of NGOs, and the need for survivor-centred, culturally informed care. 💜 #EndFGM #TheGirlGen #SurvivorSupport #XIVJornadasMGF
