Thank you @Dave_Eby for everything you contributed to this province.
Thank you @DavidEby and his family for the sacrifices of public life. The demands of leadership extend far beyond the job itself, and your family has shared in that commitment.
Congrats to @LDoerkson on this next chapter of serving the people of BC.
This should be something all politicians like tRump should take note of. Voters will throw happily throw you to the wolves when you step out of line!

If he keeps saying things like that, it will become impossible for Canadians to pay for their own drinks in any bar in the democratic world.

The victory by the Democrats better positions BC and Canada to push for a deal.
British Columbians deserve to hear a clear plan from Lorne Doerkson on how he’ll work with Team Canada to deliver a deal, and how he will defend BC’s interests in that process.

Americans declared what Canadians have known from the start: Trump’s tariff war is hurting people on both sides of the border.
The BC NDP has been unequivocal in our defense of British Columbians and in our determination to stand strong against Trump’s trade attack.
Here's a small but telling window into #Jewish culture and the moral world view that exists in #Israel .
Joe Rogan just passes on any ol' lie he finds in the deepest holes of the internet, even when the lie is raw hate from beginning to end.
Israel allows genetic testing. Almost all clinical tests and prenatal tests are actually covered under our national health insurance.
And you absolutely can get ancestry testing in Israel. 23AndMe specifically, which Joe mentions as outlawed in Israel, ships to Israel. Go to their international website and try it before you spread this dumb, mean lie. Also FamilyTreeDNA and some others.
And once you get your raw DNA information through 23AndMe and others, you can upload it to every other ancestry website for analysis.
In fact, Ashkenazi Jews, including Israeli Ashkenazim, are some of the most genetically studied populations on the fucking planet, you racist dolts. (Oops, just realized I'm kinda pissed.)
There are even Israeli studies by Israeli researchers of Israeli Jewish genetics. Nature has published studies using Israeli genetics databases. Here, for example: nature.com/articles/nature09…
So what does Israel actually restrict, and why is it so severe about it?
Two words: Parentage and obsessive privacy rules.
Parentage tests are as tightly controlled as heroin.
The reason is peculiar to our tradition and may be hard for outsiders to understand. In Jewish religious law, a "mamzer," someone born of the mother's adultery or from incest, lives a restricted life in some ways, including limits on who they can marry under traditional laws. And their religious status is heritable. These are ancient laws, but they matter in a basically conservative and religious society.
To protect children from ever becoming saddled with this status, parentage tests require a family court order, even if both parents consent to the test. Because the child has to be protected. Rabbinical courts have often forbidden testing almost across the board, including in divorce cases. In one case I once read about, the rabbinical court quashed the father's genetic test and demanded that he adopt the child to avoid any doubt. This was to protect the child in that particular case. The court refused to release the father from responsibility for the child and refused to examine evidence into the child's actual parentage.
Is this a weird cultural artifact born from a specific feature of the Jewish tradition? Yes. Feel free to make fun of it over in the secular West. I make fun of it myself over here. But inasmuch as old traditional rules are an unavoidable part of our big-family, tightly-knit society, I'll take this weirdness, and the never-ending effort to cleverly circumvent the damaging parts of the old traditions, over what's happening in your neck of the woods.
Is it all an attempt to hide the 2000 years we spent in Europe? No, you dolt. What the hell is wrong with you?
And then there's privacy. Pay attention to this one, because you'll wish you had some of our rules in your own country.
This is the only real limit on ancestry kits.
Your genetic information is totally, utterly private. Your employer and your insurance company can never discriminate against you based on your genetics. Even just attempting to get their hands on your genetic information is a felony. Labs and genetic counselors are closely regulated.
In the age of AI, even just the leaking of a *relative's* genetic information can hurt your employability and your insurance premiums. And it's not some crazy fear. Ancestry kit companies are bought and sold by commercial investors all the time, and they're the owners of customers' data. A data breach of 23AndMe in 2023 put the genetic information of millions on the internet. You're telling me insurance companies didn't scoop it up? Israelis are more protected from that dystopian new reality than most of the rest of you.
And importantly, the law's prohibitions are on the commercial companies, not on the customer. Giving someone your own genetic information isn't a crime. The company buying and selling it commercially within the jurisdiction of Israeli law is committing the crime.
That's why the one company that's actually hampered in any meaningful way from testing Israelis is MyHeritage, which is Israeli. To bypass Israeli jurisdiction and that massive privacy regime, Israelis just order a kit from a company in Texas.
So why do literally hundreds of millions of people believe the lie that Israel has a blanket restriction on genetic testing to avoid anyone ever finding out that Ashkenazi Jews come from Europe?
At its core, at its most basic: because they want to create the permission structure to destroy Israel. They want to declare Israel a colonialist, imperialist interloper doomed to be felled by the noble indigenous Arab of the land.
So they declare that Israel is hiding this great, terrible secret that nobody has ever hidden and nobody could ever hide -- that it doesn't actually belong here.
Never mind the fact that every study of Ashkenazi Jews shows that they have origins in the Levant -- isn't it a bit odd that this argument never grapples with the millions of Israeli Jews who spent the past 1,800 years in places like Iraq and Yemen, Jews who were expelled and fled to the last man, woman and child to Israel, and who make up half of Israeli society today?
You'd think if this was actually about Israeli "genetics," that would be part of this conversation. But it isn't about any kind of reality, it's a bigoted, genocidal fantasy. So the millions of Jews who don't even come from Europe magically disappear from this conversation.
I don't think Joe Rogan dreams of our annihilation. I think Joe picks up garbage floating in the juices at the bottom of the internet's deepest garbage bins and launders it happily for clicks.

“Islamists without the Islamism label" is a growing trend in American politics.
The majority of those who voted for Elsayed, Darializa, Mamdani, Kawas, Omar, and their like were not Muslims, but non-Muslim Americans who still cannot see beyond the labels.
(To put things into perspective, American Muslims represent barely 1% of the population and obviously not all of them can vote, and not all of them support Islamists).
The Islamists of today are not the long-bearded, short-gown, armed men. They are men and women who dress like you, studied in the same schools, and grew up in the same country as you. However, every step of the way, they are advancing Islamist objectives and goals, abusing the very democratic system that they oppose.
What a sad irony!
The electoral success of Islamist-aligned candidates in the United States is a reminder that we have to drop our obsession with labels.

If you are struggling to understand what is happening in American politics right now, watch this:
"Palestinization" is a concept that I developed two years ago to explain the framework that most electoral candidates, especially Islamist-aligned ones, use to align voter bases in the United States.
We saw this so evidently in the campaign messaging of the current elections.

Dear Arab Israelis,
I have a short message for you, and I'm laying it out of love and compassion but, as always, I'm completely sincere and direct.
The problem everyone in Israel is talking about has nothing to do with you being Arabs or Muslims or Christians.
The problem is (forgive my bluntness) that the majority of you still identify as "Palestinians," and that in private gatherings you always talk about the "dream of destroying Israel", something I've personally heard a couple of times.
I have a secret formula that would make every citizen of Israel vote for you and bring you into any coalition:
1. Unequivocally condemn Hamas and radical Islamic movements.
2. Acknowledge that you are Arab Israeli citizens, not Palestinians.
3. Acknowledge that Israel is the Jewish state of the Jewish people, 3,000 years old and 78 years young.
4. Learn more about the history of the land that prophets, kings, and heroes of Islam called "the land of Israel."
Is that too much to ask? Honestly, that's the least expected of any ordinary citizen of a country.
In so many of those private gatherings, you say the Israeli passport is so strong, that you can travel to Europe without a visa and many of you brag about traveling to the US because of the waiver program...
So is giving back to the Jewish state that gave you this good life really too much to ask?
Food for thought. 🌹

Okay, heads up BCers, we've got an update on those fascists at the Legislature, the day after the election. Seems they're being invited right into the Legislature by Premier designate JCM Lorne. As advisers no less.
Ontario's ruling Conservatives blame Trump for their financial state, meanwhile in BC, the BCNDP lost the election blaming Trump for their financial state! The question is will an Ontario election be lost too or was this just an accusation that BC conservatives used, despite it's truth, to help win the election? #bcpoli

I don’t know, guys. If you don’t look at Arab politics and see fundamentally different rhetoric and strategies from 20 years ago, then you aren’t actually looking at Arab politics. You’re just reading Likud talking points about it.
There’s a massive anti-Israel and anti-Zionist sentiment in the Arab street. Probably 60% of Arab political representation openly represents that sentiment. And also, there’s a powerful and growing demand to join coalitions, including with the right, to work with state institutions, to integrate into Israeli mainstream society, and so on.
Arab political parties that leave aside their ideological uniqueness and unite in a demand for a seat at the table always improve turnout in the Arab street. Always. For eight elections in a row now, that rule has held. Raam has grown dramatically, specifically because it brought a Zionist Jew into its list as its crime czar and promised its voters to tackle real world problems by working *with* Israeli state institutions, instead of against them.
It is entirely possible for the Arabs of Israel to both feel deeply Palestinian, deeply wary of Israel’s Jewishness, and deeply desiring of greater integration with their Jewish neighbors.
Don’t let anyone make excuses for the many anti-Israel radicals in those lists. But also, it’s simply a lie to pretend that the new and growing desire to integrate isn’t happening.
Welcome to real life, where two seemingly opposite things can be taking place at once.
Replying to @havivrettiggur
Arab voters want integration, which is why it's never reflected in anything they actually do and all the parties they actually vote for favor the Palestinian identity. The average Arab citizen regards himself as a Palestinian, however inconvenient that is for liberal Zionists.
If conservative politicos understood what it would cost them in the long run to oppose DRIPA, they would be on board yesterday. Sadly, those kind of smarts are not a part of their wheelhouse.
I asked Premier Kinew if he has concerns about Premier-designate Doerksen's promise to repeal DRIPA in BC:
"The election results in BC should concern every elected politician and every consultant out there... what we're doing is not a game."

Thank you, David Eby.
You spent four years building a better B.C. A million more people connected to a family doctor. Housing prices dropping faster here than anywhere else in Canada. An economy becoming less reliant on the United States.
Thank you to Cailey and the kids for sharing him with all of us. And to every candidate, volunteer, donor and voter who gave this campaign everything: thank you.
As a strong Official Opposition, the BC NDP will always fight for you.

Behind closed doors, the Conservative leader is promising big developers he’ll rip up our housing plan, the same plan that’s brought rents down faster in B.C. than anywhere else in Canada.
We’ve seen this before. When big donors called the tune under Christy Clark, a generation of British Columbians was shut out of owning a home.
We can’t go back. Every vote counts tomorrow.
