32 Thoughts (Oct 26): Some notes on the Hellebuyck trade... • On the timing, Elliotte was told the situation had a chance to get bad, especially if both sides started talking to the media, and nobody wanted that. • He says that was as much a factor as anything in why the trade happened when it did. • Florida's trade offer in June was different than what Winnipeg wanted now because to their current goaltending situation. The Jets needed a goalie in return at that time. For a time this was Hellebuyck's #1 choice. • Buffalo trade talks stalled over Winnipeg not wanting to flip their 8th overall pick for Buffalo's 4th overall pick. He says he's personally never heard Ryan McLeod's name involved. • Utah was involved at one point but Elliotte doesn't know what they offered but knows Vejmelka wouldn't go to Winnipeg. He says this rumour was very interesting. • Carolina wasn't trading Stankoven, Jarvis or Blake. They were very aggressive on trying to acquire a player from another team to flip to Winnipeg.

Chris Johnston Show (Oct 26): CJ says New Jersey was able to get Hellebuyck because they had the player (Mercer), the goalie (Daws) and the futures. He says Carolina wasn’t offering a player better than Dawson Mercer.

32 Thoughts (Oct 26): Ivan Miroshnichenko has been given permission to talk to other teams. Elliotte says there has been quite a bit of interest in him and Washington isn't going to put him on waivers because they know he will get claimed.

HNIC Saturday Headlines (Oct 24): • Carolina was trying to acquire a player from another team to flip to Winnipeg in a Hellebuyck trade. They were not moving Stankoven, Jarvis or Blake. • It’s status quo on Larkin and Edvinsson, Detroit has been asking around about young centres including prospects. • Washington is allowing Ivan Miroshnichenko talk to other teams. They want a legit return and will not put him on waivers.

I’m seeing everything from New Jersey robbed Winnipeg in the Hellebuyck trade to how could Winnipeg have done better. I guess that means it was a good trade for both sides? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Weekend Rumour Recap (Oct 24/26): • Toronto is looking for D and will pay premium assets. (Friedman) • Pittsburgh looking to move out veterans, Rakell and Rust's name are out there. Given the situation Winnipeg was in, I think they did pretty well. Mercer will help their middle six, Command was a 12th overall pick this past summer, Daws helps with goaltending depth and Bjudstad helps as a bottom C. New Jersey hit this out of the park.
