Namibia has eased immigration requirements for qualifying foreign investors by introducing a business employment permit valid for up to five years as the government seeks to improve the country’s competitiveness for investment.
The Employment Permit to Conduct Business, also known as the Investor Permit, became operational on 1 September 2026 and allows qualifying investors and eligible core staff to secure longer-term work authorisation.
The permit extends the potential validity period from the standard two years to five years, reducing the frequency of renewals for foreign investors establishing and operating businesses in Namibia.
The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) said the measure is aimed at addressing administrative constraints that can influence investment decisions, particularly as countries compete to attract foreign capital.
NIPDB Acting Chief Executive Officer Julia Muetudhana said the government had responded to concerns raised by investors about challenges in the business environment.

Namibia’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are expected to benefit from a more coordinated and strengthened national innovation ecosystem through the rollout of the ScaleUp Namibia (SUN) platform, an initiative aimed at supporting high-growth businesses and addressing structural barriers facing entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti, said the platform was established to respond to persistent systemic challenges within Namibia’s entrepreneurial landscape.
“SUN was established in response to the systemic challenges that entrepreneurs continue to face — not because they lack talent or ambition, but due to fragmentation within the country’s support structures,” Ballotti said.

Over 5% annual growth needed to meet NDP6 goals – NCCI
Namibia must grow its economy by more than 5% annually to meet the targets of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), according to Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Chief Executive Officer Titus Nampala.
Speaking at the opening of the Namibia Public–Private Partnership Forum on Thursday, Nampala said the country stands at a crossroads, facing high unemployment, rising debt, and sluggish economic growth.
“It has been a long time since Namibia reached that level, but it is not beyond our reach. What we need are slight tweaks in approach, mindset, and the rhythm with which we act,” he said.
