Truck smart and truck safely!
We’re relaunching our Truck Smart campaign to encourage drivers to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and infrastructure by following truck routes and driving safely:
🟢Check blind spots
🟢Give cyclists 3 feet
🟢Know your truck's height
🟢5 MPH turns

ALT A large green highway billboard shows an outline of a truck with an arrow indicating a designated turn. The sign reads, “Don’t take shortcuts. Use truck routes”. Vision Zero and Truck Smart NYC logos appear on the bottom right corner of the billboard. Below the billboard, cars drive along the roadway with city buildings and a cloudy sky in the background.
🚨 Mayor Adams has declared a Local State of Emergency for New York City, effective immediately, Thursday, July 31, 2025, due to heavy rain and flash flooding.
The order remains in effect through Friday, August 1, at 8 a.m.
Flash flooding can happen with little or no warning. Water can rise quickly, blocking roads, subways, and emergency access.
Immediate actions for all New Yorkers:
• Avoid all non-essential travel until Friday morning. Use public transit only if travel is unavoidable.
• If you live in a basement or flood-prone ground-floor apartment, relocate now. Do not wait for water to enter.
• NYPD precincts are open if you have no safe higher-floor or higher-ground options.
City agencies are fully mobilized to protect public safety and maintain critical operations.
• Alternate Side of the Street parking rules will be suspended on Friday, August 1, to facilitate weather operations. Parking meters will remain in effect.

If you're using a hydrant to #BeatTheHeat, use a spray cap!
🚫 Illegally opened hydrants waste 1,000+ gallons/min, lower water pressure, and can stir up sediment — causing discolored tap water. Get a cap from @FDNY!
