This is a ridiculously uninformed piece, and as a fellow libertarian I expected more from Cato. A few things the author either didn't check or got wrong: 1) Both campaigns asked for the voting extension. Flávio Bolsonaro's own party requested extra hours in three states before the ruling. A remedy both sides asked for is not "selective interference." 2) The judge who confirmed the extension changed nothing is Nunes Marques, president of the Superior Electoral Court and a Bolsonaro appointee to the Supreme Court. The piece quotes him, then ignores what he said. 3) "A judge he had unilaterally appointed" is false. The TSE has seven seats: three Supreme Court justices, two from the Superior Court of Justice, and two lawyers the President names from a list of six drawn up by the Supreme Court. The ruling in question came from a lawyer-seat minister picked from that list. 4) Bolsa Família is a means-tested cash-transfer program, not "social security." Brazil has a social security system; this is not it, and the two run on different laws and budgets. @hiperfalcon also fails to mention that in 2022 his favored Bolsonaro side raised the same cash-transfer benefit by 50% a hundred days before the vote, with the same courts looking on (still the largest single raise in the program’s history). 5) X was blocked for refusing to keep a legal representative in the country, as the law requires of every company, and it came back the moment it complied. Brazil's courts deserve serious criticism, and this isn't it. That is a lot of mistakes for a seven-paragraph article.
Free elections depend on neutral courts that stay within their limits. In Brazil’s latest election, they did not, and that undermines trust in the democratic process, writes Cato’s @hiperfalcon.

Also? Fernanda’s initial take on the new Road House is the kind of succinct insight I want from all movie reviews.

A most delightful time with the most delightful guys. Listen to our civil but lively discussion that leads to one consensus: Sam Elliott's mustache is missed.
Big news on this week's DDT. We enlisted the help of the great @NandaPrates_ to discuss the new Road House film. In the process we learned about her deep and abiding love for the original movie and its various throat rips. patreon.com/posts/doin-damn-…

For the first time ever I put English subtitles in an interview on Canal Encarada. If there's a fighter right now who deserves to be heard and better known worldwide, it's Charles Oliveira. I hope you enjoy this special piece from Guaruja, Brazil youtube.com/watch?v=x9LJ_wFo…

We had a great time on this week's DDT talking to @RodDelCampo about Mexican fighters in the UFC, the evolution of the MMA scene in Mexico, his own awesome catchphrase as a commentator, and what sucks about being married to @NandaPrates_ (hint: nothing). patreon.com/posts/doin-damn-…

Today, the people of Brazil have voted for democracy, workers’ rights and environmental sanity. I congratulate Lula on his hard fought victory and look forward to a strong and prosperous relationship between the United States and Brazil.

🇧🇷🚨This is criminal, extremely serious and worrying. If this reporting is true, Bolsonaro is using federal police forces to suppress votes and turn the tight election in his favor.

Globo is reporting that today's voter suppression efforts by federal police forces were first planned in a meeting of the inner circle of Bolsonaro's campaign in the presidential palace on Oct 19 oglobo.globo.com/blogs/lauro…

There are now reports of huge traffic jams all over Brazil, caused by both the Highway Police and Military Police. Last night on social media the head of the Highway Police called for his followers to vote for Bolsonaro, then deleted
