The opening scene of Belly makes you think you’re about to witness a masterpiece. The film goes downhill immediately after that scene.

I’ve been disappointed with how Jerrod Carmichael has handled his platform since coming out. I’ve been a huge fan of his in the past and I loved The Carmichael Show. He said something in this interview though that stuck out to me. He’s used to being “the smartest guy in the room” but the thing that’s propelled his comedy is also his problem.
We don’t need any extra context to “understand the joke”. The joke didn’t land because it’s not funny. Race play isn’t funny. I don’t think he gets what peoples actual problem is. Or maybe he’s just know focused on appeasing to the white gaze and the white gays.
