Enjoyed leading this panel on onchain yield, with each panelist bringing distinct expertise that made for a great discussion: • Hunter @HHorsley (Bitwise) on what institutions are ACTUALLY buying • Jacob @JacobPPhillips (Lombard) on how yield is ACTUALLY manufactored onchain • Elizabeth @hey_elizabethy (NY Life Investment Management) on what institutions need before they can ACTUALLY use these products Institutions want yield, but not necessarily DeFi. The core question I wanted to explore: how much complexity and risk will they accept for incremental yield? My first @Yield_Summit. Great mix of topics, people and venue
On October 6, our Managing Partner Steve Lee @xxstevelee moderated a panel at @Yield_Summit in Singapore on what institutions look for in onchain yield products.

Enjoyed sharing the panel with Akshat @akshat_hk, bringing a family office perspective; David @dtohbit, representing the venture arm of one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges; and Keli @KeliCallaghan, bringing a US multi-strategy fund perspective. I added Neoclassic’s view on investing across the US and Asia .@kbwofficial provides a unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s most vibrant crypto markets firsthand and compare notes with global participants. Understanding the gap between Korea’s local market and global perceptions often gives me a distinct perspective
Our Managing Partner Steve Lee @xxstevelee spoke at @kbwofficial in Seoul on October 1 about VC investing in digital assets: what’s changed in the market, where Neoclassic is investing, and how to spot winners.

Great discussion, with each bringing deep expertise in a different part of the stablecoin payments stack: • Arnold @0xdirichlet | @sphere_labs: Navigating bank regulatory compliance • Zaheer @zaheerebtikar | @Plasma: Whether payments need a dedicated chain • Jason | @meshpay: Connecting multiple chains & stablecoins
Steve Lee @xxstevelee, our Managing Partner, led a stablecoin panel at @0xEastPoint in Seoul, discussing the infrastructure behind stablecoin payments.

Stablecoins Win Where Banking Is Weak, Not Where It Is Advanced Panelists Arnold Lee (@0xdirichlet, @sphere_labs), Jason Ne Win (@meshpay) and Zaheer Ebtikar (@zaheerebtikar, @Plasma) discussed "Money That Moves: The Infrastructure Behind Stablecoin Payments." Where do stablecoins actually beat the existing system? Not where you would expect. Lee of Sphere Labs was direct: in the US and Europe, interbank networks are tightly connected and existing remittance already moves funds reasonably well, so the incremental benefit is limited. Between emerging markets, securing correspondent banks costs real time and real money. Using a stablecoin as the intermediary collapses one complicated cross-border transfer into two local transactions, local currency into stablecoin in the sending country and stablecoin back into local currency at the other end, with blockchain connecting two regional financial networks instead of a chain of correspondents. Is this really about cheaper fees? No, it is about the calendar. Ne Win of Mesh pointed out that traditional finance is bounded by national business days and time zones, while stablecoins transact on weekends and holidays, so capital turns over faster rather than just costing less. Running existing payment systems takes substantial headcount and expense, and stablecoins settle transparently around the clock without an organization of the same size. His framing: a stablecoin is not a separate virtual asset but a more advanced version of money, and eventually users will not realize they are using one. What is the hidden cost nobody talks about? Duplicated compliance. A single transaction can touch several institutions and payment providers, so the same KYC and enhanced due diligence runs again at every stage. Lee's proposal is to let one institution's verification result be shared with another while protecting personal data, keeping the strictest obligations at the points where stablecoins are exchanged for fiat. Will one chain win all of this? No. Ebtikar of Plasma ruled it out, because users and businesses need different transaction speeds, costs and regulatory conditions, which means purpose-built chains and services connecting multiple networks develop together. For retail users, which chain it is matters far less than whether money arrives faster and cheaper without complex KYC or a chain to choose. So who leads the next three years? Not the obvious candidates. The panel's call was that on-chain payments get led not by traditional banks and not by unregulated crypto firms, but by emerging-market fintechs holding some level of financial license. And the sharpest consumer pitch came from Ne Win. Your online accounts and social media follow you when you move countries. Your bank accounts have to be closed and reopened every time. Financial accounts that travel with you is a better story than cheaper remittance. As a US-based firm built to bridge founders, capital, and markets between US and Asia, we have always viewed Asia as our most important region outside the US Asia’s role can sometimes get lost in the global crypto conversation. Many of crypto’s most iconic projects have drawn a major share of their users and liquidity from Asia. That remains true today, including for the leading perpetual DEX Korea 🇰🇷 brings deep user participation and trading liquidity, while Singapore 🇸🇬 serves as an institutional and infrastructure hub for global crypto companies On this trip, we’ll focus on entrepreneurs building onchain financial products and traditional financial institutions considering the adoption of onchain finance, to better understand the gap and identify opportunities for our current and future portfolio companies
The Neoclassic team is heading to Asia later this month, speaking at @kbwofficial in Seoul and @token2049 in Singapore, while connecting with founders, investors, and partners throughout both weeks. Seoul: Sep 28–Oct 2 Singapore: Oct 6–9
