For months, thalassaemia patients have been struggling to get their essential iron chelation medicines. Every time supplies run out, we are given barely two weeksโ€™ worth and told to wait again. โ€œA shipment is coming.โ€ โ€œItโ€™s on the way.โ€ โ€œIt will arrive soon.โ€ Yet the shortages continue. These are not medicines we take occasionally. We need them every day, for the rest of our lives. We cannot put our illness on hold until the next shipment arrives. And this is not just a thalassaemia problem. We recognize that medicine shortages are affecting people across the Maldives, especially those living with chronic illnesses who depend on lifelong medication and regular injections. Patients needing treatment for osteoporosis, hormonal deficiencies, and other complications have also gone eight months or longer without essential medicines. Some manage to secure a month's supply, only to face months of uncertainty again. Interrupting certain treatments can have serious, lasting consequences. This is not merely an inconvenience; it puts people's health at risk. We understand that establishing a new state pharmaceutical system comes with challenges. But how long can the same excuses continue? State Pharma was meant to ensure access to essential medicines. Patients deserve more than shipment announcements and empty promises. They deserve a system that delivers. And here's what makes this even harder to accept: Parliamentโ€™s Finance Committee reportedly took just 82 minutes to approve MVR 39.5 million in annual pay rises and allowances for senior officials and over 600 island councillors. When it comes to their own salaries and benefits, decisions move fast. When it comes to patients waiting months for essential medicines, suddenly everything takes time. If MPs cite struggling constituents to justify higher salaries, shouldn't we ask why people must turn to politicians for help with basic healthcare in the first place? We are not asking for luxuries. We are asking for the medicines our lives and health depend on. And to those responsible: if you cannot even ensure that people have access to essential medicines, do the country a favor and resign. Go home. If you're not willing to do that, then stop making excuses, get your act together, and do the job you're being paid to do. The public didn't elect you to make promises. They elected you to deliver. Enough promises. Enough excuses. Patients need their medicines, not another announcement that they're on the way. @MMuizzu @DrShahMahir @geelaali @presidencymv @hrcmv @MCGH_MV @22halex @statepharmamv

Between 2023 and 2026, Maldivian taxpayers have paid former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih 9,545,599.18 in former presidential allowances. That is approximately 6,534 every single day for 4 years straight. As a country, we need to start a serious debate about this. It is not that we believe former presidents should receive no allowances. Rather, how much we pay, how we determine those amounts, and how long we continue paying them must reflect the economic realities of the Maldives.
After MPsโ€™ salaries, the next petition should address former presidentsโ€™ allowances and benefits. Itโ€™s time to start this debate. Taxpayers have paid so far Maumoon: 72 million Nasheed: 43 million Waheed: 25 million Yameen: 9 million Solih: 10 million Total: 159 million. These payments will continue, and future former presidents will become eligible too. As a nation, we must ask, can we afford this? Are these allowances proportionate to our economic reality, national income and the living standards of ordinary Maldivians? Public money should reflect public priorities.

Don't fall for the theater they are putting on with the elections in Israel. They will try to pin all the blame on Netanyahu, but the truth is that the entire nation is involved in this genocide.

They approved MVR 95,000 for the Majlis President and pay rises for ministers, MPs and council members while ordinary Maldivians struggle to afford food, rent and medicine. Thalassaemia patients still cannot get reliable iron chelation drugs. State Pharma keeps promising supplies. Patients keep waiting. This is not a shortage. It is a political choice. While the public faces rising costs, scarce foreign currency and wages that no longer stretch, those in power keep improving their own packages. The gap is fucking grotesque. This is not about salaries. It is about priorities. When the state funds official pay increases but cannot guarantee life-saving treatment, it is clear who matters and who does not. Public office is meant to serve the people. Right now it serves itself. The Majlis President and every minister who supported this should explain why their comfort ranks above our survival. The Maldives belongs to its people. Start governing like it. @MMuizzu @presidencymv

๐Ÿšจ BREAKING NEWS: Parliamentโ€™s Public Accounts Committee has approved an increase in the Speakerโ€™s salary from 73,125/- to 95,000/- month. Thatโ€™s nearly 30% raise. The proposal was submitted by Kelaa MP Abdul Shareef and endorsed by Funadhoo MP Mohamed Mamdhooh. Dear media, stop using photos of the Parliament Speaker & Prz Muizz to report this news. Instead, show the faces of the MPs who propose, endorse, and vote for such decisions. Let the public see exactly who is making these decisions with taxpayersโ€™ money.

Honestly, how does someone who was previously suspended and transferred over negligence and misconduct concerns end up back at @MBS_mv , and now as Head Nurse? After everything that happened, and after patients had already raised serious concerns, how was this decision even made? Some of us are genuinely uncomfortable having to deal with her again. Yet once again, it feels like political influence speaks louder than the voices and concerns of patients. If political backing is what brought her back, then the people behind that decision need to understand that they also carry responsibility for what happens next. If the same issues happen again and, God forbid, a life is lost, people will have every right to ask who allowed this to happen. We are patients. Our safety, our concerns, and our voices should matter more than politics. @MMuizzu @presidencymv @MoHmv @MCGH_MV @22halex @min_mohst @MBS_mv

โ€œThis is one of the largest funerals in the history of the Palestinian cause. Today, 112 martyrs will be be buried in the soil of Gaza. Talk about us. Raise your voices. Donโ€™t let these scenes pass unnoticed on your phones.โ€ - A Palestinian at the funeral
Today, Gaza is burying the remains of 112 members of al-Hasayna and Abu Sharia families, including 40 children, 38 women, and 7 people with disabilities The remains were recovered from the rubble recently after Israel bombed a residential block containing homes belonging to the al-Hasayna and Abu Sharia families on 23 November 2023, one day before the first truce in the Gaza war took effect. Gaza civil defence Mohammed Abu Dan, who supervised the recovery operation, said crews were unable to recover another 157 bodies believed to remain buried under the rubble.
