The ultras group of Algeria's ES Sétif, Ultras Inferno, displayed banners targeting France Football and FIFA. French sports journalist Christophe Gleizes was arrested in May 2024 in Tizi Ouzou, where he was working on a report about the Algerian football club JS Kabylie. An interview he conducted with a club official alleged to have links to the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie (MAK), which the Algerian government designates as a terrorist organisation, formed the basis of the case against him. In June 2025, Gleizes was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of “glorifying terrorism” and “possessing publications harmful to national interests”. His appeal was also rejected. Following calls for Gleizes' release at the France Football Ballon d'Or ceremony, Ultras Inferno brought attention to the hundreds of journalists killed and imprisoned in Palestine. The banners read: “What the fuck is this French journalist doing in front of hundreds of Palestinians?” and “Fuck France Football!” In its statement, the group compared the solidarity shown towards Gleizes with the treatment of Palestinian journalists, accusing France Football and FIFA of applying double standards.
